Soma Cazadero come in 700x50, so they're close but not quite as big as what you're looking at. They'll fit your Clem just fine and handle great on loose stuff and gravel. They're also solid on pavement. They corner well which some nobbies don't, and the raised center means a pretty quiet ride. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Two big thumbs up for Thunderburts, have them on a couple bikes. Re: [RBW] Recommended Mixed Surface Tires for Not-Too-Technical Riding?
I’ve never tried the Compass offerings, but I just went on a 200 mile gravel and forest road tour on 27.5x2.25 Thunder Burts, and they are awesome—fast-rolling, enough grip, no flats. I was running them tubeless, though, so the no flats part was expected. Bob K. in Baltimore -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] Recommended Mixed Surface Tires for Not-Too-Technical Riding?
For my mixed surface riding, I've used: 1. Schwalbe Thunder Burt 2. Bruce Gordon Rock n' Road 3. Panaracer Gravel King SK My mixed surface riding includes: 1. Urban roads of varying condition in the Washington DC Metro area 2. Smooth hard packed trails 3. Rough graveled and pocked/rutted trails The Thunder Burt feel the nicest to me, in general, on non-paved surfaces. I've put the most mils on the Rock n' Roads, and they're great - I'd forget they were knobby tires if not for the hum I get from them on road surfaces. The Gravel King's are my newest experience and they seem to be the better tire if more than 50% of the riding might be on road surfaces. I've found the Bruce Gordon knobs to wear a bit more on paved surfaces than the others if I'm carrying more than just myself on the bike. All that said, for a bit more than a year I only used Compass Barlow Pass tires on my Sam Hillborne and All City Space Horse Disc, for all of my riding, and only once did I feel like I wanted some type of a studded or treaded tire, and that was when the trail I was riding on was super wet and muddy. -Jeff Silver Spring, MD On Sat, Jul 28, 2018 at 4:02 AM Collin A wrote: > Thanks for the input so far, hopefully this is not a too common of a > thread that keeps popping up. I’ll second Bruce on that suggestion. Not as big as the ones you have listed but great tires. I have a set in the garage that you could borrow to test out if you want. I am in San Rafael but head to the east bay fairly often. Probably heading over this weekend. PM me if you want to try and meet up. You might want to try the Rock n’ Road tires. I make them in 650b x 43 both Skinwall and Blackwall. I meant to add that for my Hunqapillar I prefer the Thunderburt LiteSkin 2.1” (2.25 is great if they fit and you want/need the width) for increased grip on trails. Why LiteSkin? Because they are the closest thing to Compass tires for plushness. With abandon, Patrick -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Collin, no matter what you end up deciding, you owe it to yourself to start with the widest Compas tires that fit (Switchback Hill for 650b), as Compass is the benchmark for plush and smooth and fast ride. If you end up needing more flat protection due to thorns, try adding Orange sealant to your tubes. If you get flats from glass regularly, you may need different tires, but experience on that seems to vary here. As you then try different tires, you will have a solid benchmark of comfort and speed against which to compare them. I’ve ridden the Barlow Pass (700 x 38, road), Snoqualmie (700 x 44 road), and Steilacoom (700 x 38 knobbie) on all kinds of terrain and the road tires woudl easily handle what you describe. Their only terrain downside is rutted/technical loose stuff and snow/mud, and the knobbie handles those with exellence. I ride 1/3 paved, 1/3 dirt, 1/3 trail, including a fair bit of more technical. [RBW] Recommended Mixed Surface Tires for Not-Too-Technical Riding?
Howdy all, I'm currently looking at getting a new pair of mixed surface tires for my Clem H for general trail riding/offroad touring that don't feel excessively slow and boat-like when I am on the pavement on the way to the trailhead (sometimes 30 miles away). Currently I have some WTB riddlers and Conti x-kings that are wide and way too knobby for the riding where I live in Oakland. I started looking and was immediately overwhelmed by the options that are out there and all of the marketing crap saying that this one pair of tires will solve all of my bike riding woes. Therefore, I decided to pull from the collective wisdom/experience of those in this group to see what you guys ride in your area. If you can, please reply with what general type of terrain you ride (gravel, singletrack, sand, mud, etc), tire type and wheel size, and frequencies of tire damage! Ultimately, I want to just know what tires you folks ride on and if are generally satisfied with them. So far I'm looking at the following for 27.5/650b (max clearance of 2.4"): Schwalbe Thunder Burt 2.25" Conti RaceKing Protection 2.2" Schwalbe G-one all-round 2.25" Schwalbe G-one speed 2.35" Maxxis Crossmark II 2.25" Thanks in advance!
