Maybe we need to do multiple rides: Mt Diablo and Mt Tam. I just put my (vaguely Riv-ish) bike and camping/touring stuff on a train, with plans to retrieve it in a week at the Amtrak station on Oakland. From there, I have about 10 days of no plans but to ride and explore and camp and hopefully befriend some like-minded locals.
