Re: [RBW] Sewing wool anyone?
Hi Rich. You ought to be able to take the shirt into a tailor who can cut the arms off and hem the sleeve with a serger. I'm not sure about the arm warmer idea. We take the sleeves of old sweaters and use them as leg warmers, wearing them cuff side at the ankle. We just add on elastic so they stay up just above the knee. Works great. I don't use arm warmers, so not sure how that would work. But your local dry cleaners usually has a good tailor, so I'd suggest starting there. The tailor sounds like a good idea. Also, this is a really, really easy alteration. You shouldn't have to pay much. If I were doing this, I'd cut the sleeves, serge the raw edges, hem the now short-sleeved jersey with a zigzag, then finish and hem the cut-off sleeve. Depending on how tight the sleeves were, I might need to put some elastic in the top of the armwarmers to keep the armwarmers from sliding down the arm. Note that the armwarmers might be a little short, because of the seam allowances for the hem on jersey and sleeve.
