[RBW] Which tire was ridden on your first excursion into 650b?

2018-01-30 Thread Bob B
I started with Swiftys on Synergys. They were great but wore out fast. I
switched to regular Schwalbe Marathons and are still riding the same pair.
Nothing flashy about them, but after 8–9k miles, they are good as ever for city
commuting.

2018-01-30 Thread Tim Gavin
Eric, my experience was very similar to yours. Col de Vies on Weinmann
ZAC19 rims, which have even deeper wells than the Synergy and are
commensurately harder to get a tire to bead up properly.

Better tires and better rims definitely improved the experience! Now I
ride mostly Pari-Motos on Pacenti PL23 rims.

[RBW] Which tire was ridden on your first excursion into 650b?

2018-01-30 Thread Fullylugged
I started with Grand Bois Cypres 32s. Funny how fat they seemed then, compared
to the 25s on my 700 race bike. Now 32 is the skinniest I'll ride. I have RBW
Speedblends 34s (that measure a bit smaller) on one bike, Grand Bois Ourson 36s
on another, and Soma Express 38s (that also measure a bit smaller) on another.
My 26" ram still rides on the 32mm Panaracer style it originally came with. My
"racy" wheels :) I have Pari-Moto 38s on the shelf but they're not on
anything right now. Nice and comfy, but not very durable.

My first was Panaracer Col de Vies on Synergy rims.

It wasn't an especially good

first experience. The tires were mediocre, and the rims were awful. I
couldn't get the tires mounted correctly with the deep wells of the rims.

SOMA B-Line.

Remember when 650B was that crazy thing Grant was trying to revive and it was
hard to find tires? Good times.
