Re: [RBW] Winter Ramble

2016-12-18 Thread Patrick Moore
Thanks. I've looked at these before, and I have a few worries:

Do they stay on securely? I have small ears with lobes attached (securely)
to skull.

Don't you end up losing one of the pair?

This morning it was 25*F when I left the house, and, while I should have
worn a balaclava, instead, I used one of the faux Peruvian caps. This
didn't keep my upper cheeks warm, but it sure did keep my ears warm.

I think that perhaps this might do the same trick while looking less Fredly:

https://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-Research-83155-Peruvian-Hat/dp/B003P8QMGK

Alas, if it only had a wee brim and Molteni graphics.

This looks possible:

http://www.bicycling.com/product/bontrager-classique-thermal-cycling-cap

But no winter hat I've used so far, over the years, stays put unless I
somehow tie it under the chin -- I've got big hair.

The little brim is a big plus. It helps keep wind as well as sun from the
eyes, and at night it keeps you from being blinded by oncoming auto
headlights.

Does anyone know of an earflap cap like the Outdoor Research one -- flaps
tie under the chin -- *with* a brim?

If not, I'm tempted to try a Bontrager and add elastic.

That might just do it; wasn't aware of it -- thanks. However, I will look
further before buying (possum guilt trip notwithstanding -- yes, I know
it's a joke) because even with this hat I'd need a chin strap, as I do on
the Walz. And I don't really like balaclavas, unless the temp is guaranteed
to stay below the 20s.

But this is definitely on the very short list.
