[RBW] urban/city tire rec: 650b, 38mm or so
I’ve used these on my bike. I highly recommend all of them is their own qualities :) -Soma New Xpress 650B x 38 (34.71) express - BLACK tread: I think these ones would fulfill what you’re looking for in terms of balance of budget, flat protection, and smooth ride. My only complaint is the tan walls that will never go back to their tan glory after a rainy ride. I know, trivial, but then what’s the point of tan walls if they’re stained? -Panaracer Pasela PT Wire 650B x 42 tire, blackwall: also budget, more heavy duty, great flat protection. I used them all winter here in rainy Seattle’s potholed pavement. This is the maximum size that the fenders will fit. Barely a few mm of clearance, and you need to adjust the brake pads every time you take the tires off. -Compass 650B x 42 Babyshoe Pass: splurge and luxury for sure, not what you’re looking for but definitely keep an eye on them. They're really nice and smooth and tougher than what they seem. I’ve only ridden them in fair weather, but they’ve handled great in Seattle’s awful pavement. Not sure if I’ll keep them for the rainy winter though. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. I've been using the Soma Express as a road tire and been very pleased. 38 nominal but 36 - 37 in practice. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. The Soma Shikoros have been great commuter tires for me. A little heavier than the Compass equivalent (38 mm), and slightly less cushy, but the ride is great and no flats yet for me. That's in about a year of all-around riding including nine-mile city ride to work. John -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Hi Bunch A commuter needs some amount of puncture protection, but also not looking for a set of bricks. Would love a happy in-between... Any recommendations? 650b, 38mm. Perhaps 40 or 42. Low cost a somewhat-requirement; I can be convinced. Thanks Patch BK/NY -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
