[RBW] what skewer please?

2016-11-20 Thread 'Mojo' via RBW Owners Bunch
I've got a Shimano (Ultegra?) in my SP D8 hub. I think I've also used a Mavic &
Campy at times. No problems.

2016-11-20 Thread Ray Varella
I just measured 4 different quick release skewers here, Mavic, Campy and
Suntour, all are 5mm or slightly smaller (Mavic)
They are all pre circa 2000 skewers.
Do you have any other skewers you can test fit?

2016-11-20 Thread Jay in Tel Aviv
The diameter of the skewer is a bit too wide. Looks like just under 6mm.
The hub is brand new, just arrived, and appears perfect in the light of the
battery headlight it is supposed to replace.

Re: [RBW] what skewer please?

2016-11-20 Thread Ray Varella
Jay,
When you say the skewer is too wide, are you referring to the diameter of
the skewer being too big around to slide through the hole in the axle or are
you saying that even with the nut screwed all the way down on the skewer it
won't close tight enough when you clamp down the quick release lever?

If it's the former, is there a burr or some other issue obstructing the hole
drilled through the axle?
Have you looked through it with a bright light?
Is the axle bent and the sewer can't go all the way through?

If the latter, is it possible the skewer was not threaded far enough to
properly cinch down?
Is it possible you have inadvertently tried a rear quick release instead of a
front?

That's exactly what this is. A Bontrager q/r from the front wheel of my
late 90s Gary Fischer.
Caliper shows around 6 mm / 0.25".

[RBW] what skewer please?

2016-11-20 Thread Jay in Tel Aviv
My SP-PV8 / DT460 wheel finally showed up today !!! after nearly 2 months
of waiting on parts/shipping/customs/etc.
However, unnoticed by me even though it says so on every website selling
it, the hub comes with no skewer.
No problem, says I. I have an old set of MTB wheels sitting in my shed. I
can pilfer the Q/R skewer from front. That's 100 mm too so it will surely
fit.
Except that it doesn't. It's too wide.

So, please tell me wise ones. What skewer do I need, where do I get it, and
why the !@#$!@#$ doesn't it come with the hub?

I'm ready to start making my own electricity now please.

Thanks,
Jay
