Manny,
Look on craigslist. In your area there are likely lots of good, used tandems.

Brands to look for:
- burley
- santana

you'll see lots of those.
Used tandems are significantly cheaper than new. Figure 75% off of new
retail price.

And yes - tandems let riders of disparate speed and cadences stay
together and enjoy places together.

They are great bikes and I think under-appreciated.
We have a burley paso-doble and have been riding tandem for about
4yrs now. We love it.

Sadly, riv does not, yet, make a tandem. You're very close to where
rbwhq is, though, go harass Grant to make one, please.

good luck, finding one - if there are any questions I can help with,
feel free to email me.

RE: [RBW] Any Tandems?

2010-11-10 Thread Larry Powers

I will agree with most of what was said below but I will add that Cannondale
tandems still seem to be one of the best values for the dollar in a new tandem.
My stoker (wife) reports that the ride is much harsher on the C'dale then our
lugged steel Bilenky Tandem. The thudbuster seat post softens up the C'dales
ride significantly.

The problem with used is finding one that fits both of you. If you can find
one they will be much cheaper then new. Santana makes a good bike but often
specs parts that are not standard on Tandems so you have to work a little
harder to find them or have a local Santana dealer that you deal with.

Good luck.

They're GREAT! Don't forget Co-Motion along w/ Burley and Santana.
Hard to find models that take fat 700c tires as we tend to like, so you
might want to look at 26 if you're planning on riding trails with it (which
is AWESOME BTW!).

RE: [RBW] Any Tandems?

2010-11-10 Thread Frederick, Steve
To bring this a bit more on topic, I wonder if a 700c, sidepull-braked tandem
would work well as a 650b conversion? Our CoMotion has 26 wheels and
cantis--it rolls great on pavement or dirt with Pasela 1.75s

Since you are in the SF Bay Area, keep an eye out for Ibis tandems. They
didn't make a lot, but I've seen a few of them them show up in the past few
months.
