Re: [RBW] Today's Ride
Aha! The WTF ride! I had one on Tuesday evening. I was late getting out the door after 4 pm, sunset at 530, cloudy day, uneven and sand-patch strewn dirt roads. Managed 3.41M northbound before I was stopped at a huge sandpit where a gully washer or arroyo buster had flooded the (now merely damp) streambed with drifts of sand that even the City's backhoe had not fully cleared. Detoured a bit, got a fast flat on the rear. Stopped, took out my usually very adequate Lezyne Alloy Drive and pumped frantically to keep up with the leak, sealant spewing from the hole. Got it to ~30 psi, frantically tried to remove the thread-on hose, which bound (binded), leaving all the air to leak out from the puncture. Pumped again, managed to get hose off before the pressure dropped too much, spun the wheel rapidly, hearing the "hiss--hiss-hiss" of the leaking hole getting fainter as the pressure dropped. Repeated this 3 more times; then changed the tube. By that time it was almost 5 pm and time to head home. New rear tube had slight leaks, requiring me to stop three times on the brief return to pump (the Stan's finally did its thing). Total of 6.91 miles in 54:22 for a new record. But better than no ride, and the tires seem to be holding air now. Re: [RBW] Today's ride (with special guest appearance by Cyclotourist!)
Having a GREAT time in the City of Roses. Yesterday was mountain bike racing where I got to see and cheer on Beth H. HUGE weekly races, at least by my standards. Tons of families with kids out there. Lots of women racing, many, many, many kids out there. Everyone was really nice, no macho-testosterone stuff going on that I noticed. Today was a ride in Forest Park, a urban park minutes from downtown. I had an offer from my friend to pull the boy on the Piccolo for the day, so how could I resist (my former QB at that) Mike may have converted my hosts into Randonneuring, we'll see. Went to lunch at Hopworks where I had an Imperial ESB and then a Stout. The afternoon was a bit of a blur after that, but stopped by to see Beth @ Citybike and got the grand tour, only to be interrupted by the UPS Guy. Now back home, ready to kick back and watch Stage 3 of Le Tour. So far, so good!!! Here are pix of today: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclotourist/archives/date-posted/2010/07/06/ And here are some from yesterday's racing event: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclotourist/archives/date-posted/2010/07/05/ On Tue, Jul 6, 2010 at 3:12 PM, Mike wrote: > So finally I woke up to a nice sunny day here in Portland.
