Re: [RBW] Hope You Heal Soon
I had a similar crash to Jan's, except that I was not descending and the car passed someone on a curve. It's just a worst nightmare scenario, one moment everything is fine and the next you have that "this is the last thing I'm going to see or I'll wake up in the hospital" moment. My left arm, hand and foot are still weak over four years later. It definitely changed me permanently. I'll probably never feel really comfortable on a bicycle again, but I love them too much to stay off them. And FWIW, you are not safer in a car -- my mom lost her leg in a car crash. She was sitting in a parked car in a parking lot when she was hit. I agree, stay vigilant. And keep the pressure on everyone you know to pay attention when they are driving. Keep the pressure on society to make our roads safe for all users. Cars are deadly weapons. Re: [RBW] Hope You Heal Soon
The other day on my usual ride, as always I cross the road and head in the opposite direction of traffic briefly making a quick left onto a dirt path. On this occasion a fellow in a car was looking down while driving and veered off the road and was headed straight for me, I was just about to bail when his head popped back up and he quickly made it back on the road! Point is there's a lot of distracted driving and cyclists will undoubtedly lose in any collision. Stay vigilant out there folks. I'm just glad that this accident didn't end in a tragic way. I hope Jan has a speedy recovery and no lasting long term effects from these injuries. Wow! That sounds like a pretty hairy crash. I had to chuckle at his observation that all the bones would heal at the same time. Good luck with the rehab. dougP On Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 3:34:30 PM UTC-8, truegolden wrote: > > https://janheine.wordpress.com/2015/11/21/i-was-lucky-but-still/ > > I did not see this posted here today but saw it on the ibob list. > Apologies if it was posted and this is a duplicate. > > Adding my prayers for healing and strength to bear up during the process > for Jan as well as his family > during the holidays. > > Paul in Dallas > > > > > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] Hope You Heal Soon
Bad news and unfortunately all too typical. Left turning cars into cyclists and pedestrians who have the right or way are the number one cause of serious injury and deadly encounters us non-mechanized travelers have with autos.
