It's probably just that the current batch of Clem owners aren't self-absorbed

Is it just me, or is the Clem the least photographed new Riv model ever? (This

RE: [RBW] Re: Clems have shipped!

2015-10-30 Thread Tony DeFilippo
My wife's 52" orange Clementine shipped, reportedly will arrive next Wednesday.
Can't wait, her motobecane mirage and mb-3 are both giving up their best parts
to build it up... First brand new bike in our household.

I liked the original orange from the prototypes better, it was closer to her
college, Tennessee's orange. But I'm sure it will grow on her. Our it'll get
recoated eventually. I must have missed the warning that their would ends up
being variability in the colors.

Her build is going to start off pretty vanilla;

Albatross cockpit, single Paul thumbie w/ silver shifter, cork grips
1x8 gearing
Fatty rumpkin tires
Shimano cantis
Canti mounted mini front rack with Wald medium

I do have some Paul levers and aWI Eno crank that may find their way onto the
Tine but I'm still debating it. I also need to add a rear rack.

2015-10-30 Thread 'Mark in Beacon' via RBW Owners Bunch
Nice to hear people's build plans. For me, I am happy that I don't have to
think about a thing. Aside from adding the necessary accessories, I plan to
leave it stock (maybe tires at some point. Partly for fun to see the
difference). I guess I'm a bit tired of builds right now, fun as they can
be. In fact, that is a good part of the appeal for me with this particular
bike. Just take it out of the box and go! In fact if they offered a version
with fenders and dyno light system I would have gladly paid that premium in
a second. Racks, too, except for now it will have a Burley Moose Rack for
the Piccolo.

Thanks, Bill. I guess everybody in the biz must know that about the Rinko

Re: [RBW] Re: Clems have shipped!

2015-10-29 Thread Zed Martinez
If you haven't encountered rinko before, it's a pretty cool thing. Doubt
it'll ever be quite so useful in the US, but heck, I had still planned to
upgrade to a rinko headset on my Clem anyway, so this was perfect. The
basic idea is to make a bike that can quickly be broken down to fit in a
special bag to carry on the trains. The headset uses semi-sealed bearings
so you can take the whole fork out for that process without losing them or
having to spend forever at the end readjusting it. There's a lot about it
online, but a decent overview of the practice if not this specific style of
headset is this one from
BQ: http://www.bikequarterly.com/images/BQ_rinko.pdf

I think it will be Bullmoose Boscos, 1 X 8, Compass Switchback Hill 48mm 650B
tan sidewall tires, 2 1/2 inch Woody's compound curve fenders, Stronglight 49
crank with a Bespoke chainring (with a vintage Dur-Alum chainguard if I can get
it to play well with the crankset). Haven't quite figured out the brakes yet
-- I want to use Paul Neo-Retros, but I'm not sure I can make the cable routing
work on the rear -- if not, I guess I'll put on Paul Moto-Lites; Paul Levers
either way. And a matching set of funky Electra saddle and grips -- gotta
defer to the gift recipient's wishes!

Re: [RBW] Re: Clems have shipped!

2015-10-26 Thread David Banzer
Very nice added bonus indeed. Looks like I have everything I need to build
mine up, minus a few tiny things that I'll pick up at my LBS.

RE: [RBW] Re: Clems have shipped!

2015-10-26 Thread Allingham II, Thomas J
I ordered a couple pairs of these grips, and they're VERY nice. The natural
gum ones might find their way to my impending Wilbury build.

Do we know what is NOT coming with the complete bike?
I think I remember reading that saddle and pedals are included but grips aren't?
Does anyone know for sure?
I have a Med 'tine on the way
If grips aren't installed, I'm thinking these natural rubber grips from V.O.
would do the trick
