Around the spoke holes? I have an OC that's been on the rear of one
of my bikes for about 10 years. Don't know how many total miles are
on it, but I'll need to check it for cracks if this is a known problem.

have been a problem for years.

The latest US-made rims may not have the issue. Velocity has been
excellent in its reponse: free wheel rebuilds including all parts, labor
and shipping.

Re: [RBW] Re: Velocity Service!

2014-08-31 Thread George Schick
OK, thanks for the photos and info. First of all, my Velocity OC's were
made in Australia. As I said, I've had 'em for about 10 years, by have no
idea how long they might've been sitting around in the retailer's stock
before building. Secondly, they do not have ferruled spoke holes like the
ones in the photos - they're just plain holes drilled through the rims.
Can't remember what they look like on the inside since it's been a long
time since I've had the rim strip off (if ever). Finally, I didn't find
any cracks around the spoke holes, but I find what appeared to be vertical
cracks on the rim's brake surface so I went all the way around both sides
with fine 400 grit sand paper to remove brake pad residue and get a better
look - they all turned out to just be shallow scratches from something.

Was there a time frame when the Velocity people produced an excellent
quality product and then a period where they when down hill for a while and
then back to normal again at a later date?
