Your MRI business with Michael Gorman is a stroke of genius, your down-to-earth pragmatism and resourcefulness combined with his immense knowledge and theoretical insight can mean nothing but success. You are certainly right that AACR2 + MRIs can achieve practically the same results that RDA implementation might achieve, at a fraction of the cost and disruption. However, and I'm not sure how big an 'however' this is, your approach is an updating of AACR2 whereas RDA is a new approach with more theoretical potential than AACR2. Only the test data do not exploit it in that they do not go beyond Scenario 3. Anyway, to build a convincing business case for RDA has just become a bit harder. It would take at least a Scenario 2 commitment and a successor to MARC. Before they have all of that in place, your new deal might be extended further to cover as much of WEMI as the world may need. [RDA-L] SLC cheat sheets
[As posted to Autocat] The SLC cheat sheets have undergone extensive revision, and new ones have been added. Any who have downloaded them, or received copies from me, should replace them. Unlike the MRIs, the cheat sheets do not require a user account. You may tick the ones you wish to have e-mailed to yourself. My appreciation to those of you who have suggested improvements, and reported typos. If RDA is finally not implemented, I will regret all the work incorporating RDA alternatives. But the relief will be greater than the regret! Mac __ __ J. McRee (Mac) Elrod (m...@slc.bc.ca) {__ | / Special Libraries Cataloguing HTTP://www.slc.bc.ca/ ___} |__ \__
[RDA-L] SLC Cheat Sheets
There have been revisions and additions to SLC Cheat Sheets in anticipation of RDA. They may be ticked and e-mailed to yourself: http://slc.bc.ca/cheats/ At the beginning of July (assuming RDA implementation is announced at the end of June), there will be further revisions, mainly moving RDA/MARC media fields 336-338 from the end of Cheat Sheets to their field number place, where they have not already been moved. Reports of errors and typos are welcome before the end of June, and corrections will be part of the July replacements. __ __ J.
