Re: [RE-wrenches] Outback AC Coupling

2018-02-05 Thread jryago
We have installed a number of AC coupled systems over the years and believe we
may have some of the first systems installed. Several are over 15 years old
now and represent multiple brands and combinations of inverters. None of these
systems relied on frequency shift by battery inverter to force solar inverter
off line. So far no problems.

All of these systems utilized a 30 or 60 amp power relay having a 120 vac coil
controlled by a smaller control relay having a 12 vdc coil directly controlled
from aux. relay contacts in inverter. High battery voltage triggered array
disconnect from secondary breaker panel on output side of battery inverter.
Only design issues are getting a fail-safe arrangement of the N.O. and N.C.
relay contacts correct, and program settings to avoid boiling AGM batteries.

[RE-wrenches] Outback AC Coupling

2018-02-05 Thread Kirpal
Hi Folks.Outback no longer supports AC coupling on their Radian
systems. My understanding is that it is because of the unreliability of
the ROCB (remote operated circuit breaker) they were using. I have heard
that they are imminently going to release a white paper about AC coupling
using a solid state relay instead. I was wondering if any of you have done
this? Do you have any advice about the settings for the Auxiliary output
settings that control the relay? Looking for programming advice on the
mate 3. I talked to Outback today and they said until the white paper is
released they won't be giving instructions or advice on this capability.
They did tell me not to use the AC couple mode already programmed into the
mate 3 auxiliary output control.
Thanks in advance for any advice! On or off list!!
Cheers.

We had a similar problem. Just ended up designing our own, built them like
pergolas and used Iron Ridge XR1000 rail. 12.5 KW, 4 large parking spaces.
Worked out great, just had to find a decent contractor to build it to meet
code. The Orion system looks great for larger systems.

I am wondering if there is anyone out there that knows of a solar car port
manufacturer that can supply equipment for smaller carport structures. All of
the companies I have reached out to only want to deal with larger projects, 500
kw and up. who is making structures for small commercial or even residential
clients? We happy to take on design and engineering in house we just want to
use the racking equipment.
  Thanks
