Re: [RE-wrenches] Trackers

2018-09-05 Thread Sindelar Solar

Bill,

No, I'm with you on this.Given the the greatest boost (~+/- 30%) of
daily tracking is during the summer and most stand-alone applications
are winter-peak (where tracking adds at best 10-15%), seasonal water
pumping is about the only time when small-scale tracking is justified
over simply adding array. Any pumping where the source is slow enough
that the length of the day becomes an important factor, like drip
irrigation or a very low yield well or spring, is worth looking into.
But that's about it in my experience.

Re: [RE-wrenches] mod waveform LED dimmer

2018-09-05 Thread jay
HI Ray,

Yea thats a good assumption based on CFL’s.

But LED are different.

What happens is that the LEDs will dim a small amount and then ( there are 4
LED lights in a light fixture) one will turn off for a short while ( few
seconds) then it’ll come back on and another will go off and on and on it goes.

I’ve see this on other systems from a generator with poor quality.

Its pretty odd and totally random.

The options for this customer are going back to incandescent, or maybe there is
a LED/Dimmer combo out there that works. And as to trying out others, yea
thought of that but they are expensive and could be a big rabbit hole.

thanks
jay

There are a lot of All Earth trackers going up in these parts.
Of course they are made just North of here, so that may be part of it.

Dual axis active tracker – seem to be well made and pretty reliable.

If you lived offgrid and had to run a heatpump for cooling in

give you the long hours of solar power to minimize battery use.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Trackers

2018-09-05 Thread Dave Angelini Offgrid Solar

I have been waiting for a small 6" pole tracker like the AZ125 that
array tek made. I could get 2KW on it. They only make the 8" (too much
work) and HZLA that I use quite a bit. --Dave

What trackers are y'all using nowadays?
I have a customer (with a great site) who's insisting on a pair. We've sold
Zomeworks and Array Technologies in the past, but I know there are more
offerings now.

Thanks for the input!

Re: [RE-wrenches] JLM Phazr

2018-09-05 Thread MiJo Nels
They were located right in our backyard (Sacramento) so we were very
excited to have something new to abuse. From all the articles I've read,
they are restructuring pending a cash infusion (investors) . . It seemed
like a decent idea, heck we proved Micro inverters and power optimizers
could stand the abuse of a roof top install, why not LFP? . . JLM appears
to be fading fast.
