Re: [RE-wrenches] Crimper for Enphase field wireable connectors

2019-03-08 Thread Glenn Burt
Nick,

I recall an extensive discussion here regarding terminals to be used for
battery terminals and the terminal manufacturer's requirement to use a
specific crimper with their components to maintain their listing.

It was the consensus here that the manufacturer could not exclude other
listed tools to make the connections, and retain the listing as it was
built.

Please explain to me how what you are telling us is different?

Regards,

Glen Burt

Hi Jason,

The Field Wireable Connectors Installation Guide specified the following
crimping tools for use with the connectors: Multi-Contact PV-CZM-18100,
-19100, or -22100. That tool is required for meeting our reliability
requirements and compliance requirements.

Obviously I don't want to violate the listing, but I also don't want to
spend $500 for a tool for each truck.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Crimper for Enphase field wireable connectors

2019-03-08 Thread Ray
I think the bigger question here is this:  Has anyone had connection
failures of any sort using other crimpers?  i use an Amphenol tool and
crimps, and they have always worked fine with a variety of modules.  I
can see Enphase requiring the expensive tool, because it covers their
liability bacon, and the cost isn't coming out of their pocket. The only
failed connector I came across was a horrible cheap chinese copy of an
MC connector on a little E bay RV system I trouble shooted.  They used
what looked like  heavy tin foil in the connector, I could just bend it
around with my fingers.  It was immediately obvious it was inferior, and
was non UL. But please has anyone actually had an issue in the thousands
of connections all of us Wrenches have made over the past 15 years?

I wouldn't call it a prohibitively expense, but when one tool makes up

I'm missing something and these other tools use dies that are
acceptable, but it sounds like we are being forced into a single
