Re: [RE-wrenches] Large current battery combiners, UL Listing

2022-09-10 Thread Kirk Herander via RE-wrenches
SolarBOS can possibly make one custom for you, it will be listed, and it
will not be cheap. I was going to order a 2000A w/ multiple OCPDs on both
inputs and outputs from them, but then Midnite came out with a 2000A
combiner, and I don't need it listed for my application.

We have used the midnight box, both with and without OCP breakers, I dont
think they are large enough for what you want, we have up to 80 kWhrs

Getting listing on something as specialized as you are talking about may be
difficult. I would turn to the telecom industry for solutions. Here is
one link

I found. Their product line is pretty sexy and it is listed.

If you are rolling your own, you can find ampacities for standard copper
bar thicknesses someplace like here
.
You might fabricate something that looks like one of these

but bigger. Threading is desirable so you can avoid wrangling nuts on the
back sides, but tapping copper at a reasonable bolt size (likely 3/8-16)
can be tricky. I am looking for any excuse to buy one of these drill
presses

which can automatically chip-clear. Basically at this point in my life my
only reason for working is to support my tool addiction.

Good luck.

Hello Wrenches,

Is anyone aware of a high current, (~3000A DC rated, 48Vdc nominal) battery
combiner panel that would allow for ~36-48 x 4/0 cables to connect?

Seems like nothing will be close to UL listed on this. How do you go about
building a 60 kW off-grid system on the battery side of things? Do I need
to increase battery voltage design?

I have gotten a custom busbar fabricated by Storm Power rated for about 2kA
before, but I'd love to have a UL Listed solution for large battery
combining. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

The 15 is not that similar to the 12, there is no OCP on most of the AC
inputs, this means you need to add that in, connection to the grid will
require a OPD maybe a traditional AC disco we used for years, you may need
a 200 amp with fuses as required by your meter max. Off grid you would not
need this but use of a genny would over 12 k or so you still do. Load out
of balance has gotten better with firmware upgrades. Over 2 battery inputs
will require a battery combiner, l have had no issues with solark on off
grid usage. Fortress battery links up well with the solarks.

Hi Howie

Here is an interesting youtube video about testing the sol ark vs XW pro.

They use all sorts of loads and the sol ark does not come out well in my view,
but I’ll let you decide.

Re: [RE-wrenches] sol ark 12kw question

2022-09-10 Thread Mac Lewis via RE-wrenches
Hi Jay,

It can process 6500W of solar per input port of the MPPT, in the case of
the 12kW, there are 2 of them. so around 13kW. As an off-grid inverter,
it's a 9kW total if perfectly balanced, but perhaps better to think of as
37.5A per phase.

I don't believe that 37.5A increases if the solar is available or not with
the 12kW. However, in the new 15kW, there is a little bump in the off-grid
inverter output when there is solar available.

Cheers

The manual says 6,500 and 6,500 watts but that is grid connected.
It looks like its 6,500 max for offgrid?

Is that correct?
