Re: [reiserfs-list] correct version of reiserfs for 2.2.17

I added it myself after I realised it was missing after I kept getting buffer-300 errors even though I had upgraded to 3.5.34 (and couldn't at first understand why they were appearing) Sincerely, Adrian Phillips -- Your mouse has moved. [reiserfs-list] correct version of reiserfs for 2.2.17
I have taken over support for a machine running the 2.2.17 kernel with reiserfs 3.5.32 . We cannot upgrade to a later kernel at this time. I would like to know if this is the correct latest version of reiserfs that can be run with the 2.2.17 kernel. If this is not the correct reiser, which version should we be running on our machines. Also, is there any type of change listing that shows what fixes, etc are in the different reiserfs versions? Thanks,

Thanks, There are 4 fixes for reiserfs-3.5.32 : ftp://ftp.namesys.com/pub/reiserfs-for-2.2/fixes-for-3.5.32/ To apply: Put all 4 *.dif to linux/fs/reiserfs directory, and perform : # patch -p0 file.c.dif # patch -p0 inode.c.dif # patch -p0 objectid.c.dif # patch -p0 symlink.c.dif It will convert your reiserfs-3.5.32 to reiserfs-3.5.33, but without knfsd support. There is also reiserfs-3.5.34 patch (without knfsd support) against linux-2.2.16, that could be used probably with linux-2.2.17 as well: ftp://ftp.namesys.com/pub/reiserfs-for-2.2/testing/L-2.2.16-reiserfs-3.5.34-without-knfsd-support-patch.bz2 Although, it is not tested with linux-2.2.17. Thanks, Yura.

There is a much stronger reason to use 2.2.20, than it merely works better. There were two security holes involving ptrace in 2.2.17. These are fixed in 2.2.20. These allow a non-root user to gain root access. -- |\__/|\__/|\__ --= 8-) EHM =-- __/|\__/|\__/| \|| | [EMAIL PROTECTED] PGP 8881EF59 | ||/ \ \ | __| -O #include stddisclaimer.h O- |__ | / / \___\_|/82 04 A1 3C C7 B1 37 2A E3 6E 84 DA 97 4C 40 E6\|_/___/
