I haven't done a release in a very VERY long time, so tell me if I forgot
to
 do anything...

Since this is the first KF5 release, one thing that you guys might need
for
packaging is the specification of dependencies between the frameworks.

You can find it in kde-build-metadata/dependency-data-kf5-qt5, attached
here
 for convenience.
All tier1 frameworks (see http://community.kde.org/Frameworks/List) are
not
mentionned in that file (on the left side), because they only depend on
Qt and
 extra-cmake-modules.

For description of the frameworks, see README.md in each framework.

And now the bad news: we'd like to release on January 7.
But this is just a technical preview of something technical (= not usable
by
end users), I'm not sure if we *need* to have binary packages by that
date.

Great! I don't think binary packages are needed; they would be nice, but
not a requirement IMHO.

I did a list[1] of packages sort by build order if some one needs it.

Yes, take a look to Martin's thread in date 3th June 2012. Also, I've been

Keep in mind when I said targetted testers, they need to be aware that

Better testing of tagged tars

2013-01-31 Thread Andrea Scarpino
LS

Since there is not a clear answer yet, and both the undersigned Distro's
feel a better way of testing the tagged tars is needed during the 4-5 days
before they are officially released, we'd like to make a proposal on behalf
of the Linux distributions Arch Linux and the Chakra-Project.

Consistently we are the first to warn and report about bugs in just
released tars, but neither distro has a good way of building these
packages, store them safely on their servers, and keep them completely
hidden from the public. Big question truly is why they should be hidden.
Both these distro's do not make it possible for the regular user to find
these packages. The repo's where they are placed are not on any official
repo list made available to any regular user installing these distro's,
only those with inside info how to edit the needed files, will be able to
find these packages.
We also know there is a fear bug reports for non-released KDE version will
surface, but we both educate our testers to report any issues found
internally, and if it is clear it is not a distro specific bug, not testers
but a distro developer will convey the found bug/issue to the appropriate
channel.

We, as Arch Linux and Chakra-Project developers would like to propose now
to follow the recommendation set by Dirk Mueller in the last long ml thread
regarding this issue, and have the build packages from the tagged tars
available to our testers during the time period between tagging and release.

Either way I'll do a set of conversions into scratch tonight for the

As a packager I would say _before_ 4.10 final release.

We already packaged the first sets of tarballs, so we could package the new

 Hi all,

this weekend KWin received bug reports against 4.8.80 from distro packages

Monday.

Now I concider this as an issue if users can report bugs for a version we
do
not yet expect. E.g. in KWin I had not yet created the version
information - I
wanted to do this on Monday after the release. Because of that bug 301068
had
been reported incorrectly against 4.8.2 which quite confused me.

For Beta 1 this seems not so much an issue, but for Beta 2 such too early
releases can waste quite some time. Consider we don't notice and
investigate
why a bug fix did not work? And even if we notice we have to spend time
asking
the user to verify which version was actually in use.

So I would like to know, what's the reason why distros ship the packages
too
early and whether we find it acceptable that distros ship the packages too
 early.

Well...In Arch I released the packages some hour before Tom's thread about
calling off beta1. You guys decided to delay it only, so I kept the
packages in the unstable repo to let our devs test them, but I didn't
announce them.
I guess the Install KDE 4.9 wiki page on techbase did the rest.

Anyway, if you want to blame someone I guess you should blame users not us.

Hi,

kdelibs installs:
/usr/lib/libkactivities.so - libkactivities.so.5
/usr/lib/libkactivities.so.5 - libkactivities.so.5.7.0
/usr/lib/libkactivities.so.5.7.0

while kactivities installs:
/usr/lib/libkactivities.so.6 - libkactivities.so.6.0.0
/usr/lib/libkactivities.so - libkactivities.so.6
/usr/lib/libkactivities.so.6.0.0

kdebase-workspace build with kactivities.so.6, so I guess the kdelibs tarball
should be fixed and recreated.

 Hi,

I just finished the first set of 4.3.90 (KDE 4.4 RC1) tarballs and uploaded
them. kde-l10n still takes a few more hours, I'll upload them later.

Please let me know of any urgent issues, we'd like to release this asap.

Hi, kdebindings fails to build here:

Re: KDE 4.4 RC1 (4.3.90) tarballs uploaded

2010-01-07 Thread Andrea Scarpino
2010/1/7 Eric Hameleers al...@slackware.com:
Here, kdelibs 4.3.90 fails to find shared-desktop-ontologies. The
4.3.85 tarball did not have any problem finding and using
 shared-desktop-ontologies.
The shared-desktop-ontologies which I have installed has not changed
at all in the meantime (this is v0.2).
None problem with shared-desktop-ontologies 0.2 here.

About the sip error I am trying to build it with the last sip snapshot.

2010-01-07 Thread Andrea Scarpino
2010/1/7 Dirk Mueller muel...@kde.org:
while I had the problem originally, after updating to 4.4 kdebase/workspace it
 builds fine for me.
But kdebase-workspace requires kdebindings-python to enable KDE Python
support, if your solution work, one needs to build kdebase-workspace
twice??
