Hi Albert,

I think for kdelibs 4.8.4 we should make the dependency on Qt 4.8 optional.
can we ifdef the change for Qt 4.8? is there a way to fallback ?

Ah, d'oh. okay, that explains it.

Well, now we have the mess completed. IMHO we should create a KDE/4.9 and move

For now I created a KDE/4.8.x branch without the merge and will create v4.8.4

- Qt 4.7.x compile fix
- regression fix in upower support of solid (2404110)

kdeaccessibility and kdeutils are traditionally missing.

Hi,

they are split into subtarballs now, following git module split. I only
preserve tarball splitting over minor releases (aka if there are further git

Thats life, you need to push it there. We can decide to move it to other

 2) I need to update kdeui/about backgrounds, but If I do that I will change
backgrounds also for the KDE 4.7 branch.

There are two possibilities:

a) create a kdelibs KDE/4.8 branch for this purpose. (plus the patch to make
kdelibs 4.7 actually look like KDE 4.8, which I currently apply to the
tarballs only (in kde-common/release/make-kdelibs-4.8.diff)

b) add a tarball of artwork that I need to unpack in kdelibs prior to creating
the actual release tarball to kde-common/release/* as well)

For me, it would make most sense to create a KDE 4.8 branch in kdelibs, but I

(for those modules that are in SVN, a /branches/KDE/4.8/* tree has been

The only exception that exists (as usual) is kde-l10n ,which is still taken
from /trunk/l10n-kde4 until 4.8.0 release. so nothing changes for translators

With these superbuilds, you can create e.g. a standalone source package for
all of e.g. kdegraphics. When creating such a source package, you can/have
to enter the git tag e.g. via cmake-gui, then the source package will be
 for this tag.
Or, you can build all of kdegraphics in one go directly from git.

how does that work? I set SB_PACKAGE_VERSION_NUMBER to v4.7.0, but it still
checked out git master, which is completely wrong.

how do I tell it to check out a specific tag instead?

also, why are the subdirectory names completely different (capitalized instead
of lower case like the fine grained tarballs)? why is there a Source/ subdir
where the main subdir does not have a CMakeLists.txt, so that the usual cmake
; make; make install workflow does not work?

is there a way to tell it to not run make install after every module? for
packagers, the step of make and make install must be completely seperate.

In this state I don't see that I can create monolithic tarballs from that
method, I would prefer to run the old setup-kde*.sh scripts (from
/trunk/KDE/kde-common/release).

Anything I'm doing wrong here? I might have not grasped every part of the

I guess you mean another KDE 4.6 release. Yes, given the messup that happened
with 4.6.4, we need to release 4.6.5 fairly soon.

kdeutils is supposed to release with split tarballs (of course, the build
system in 4.6 has been tweaked to also work as a monolithic tarball for the
 4.6.5 release).

Lets hope so. Are the branch names in those git modules at least consistent?

I'm not sure what's the status of kdeaccessibility, I'll check now.

Regarding your main question: we have both KDE 4.7.0 and 4.6.5 imminent.

It seems the only sensible solution is to either delay the split until 4.7.0
is over (which is a pain because it means that I gotta collect the leaves for
4.7.1, which is supposed to be a minor release), or we need to do it before
4.7.0, essentially before RC1, which is however supposed to be done today.

I see no easy solution. what is your timeline for the conversions?

the script which I use to reassemble the tarballs is in svn, /trun/kde-

Yes, sure, but I'm away from this noon until Sunday evening.
Is this needed already now for 4.7 ?

I was hoping to have some more weeks to give it more testing and finish it.
(it being the Superbuild CMakeLists.txt, which provide builds in
old-style KDE modules or in the future maybe even an all-in-one build
 using CMakes ExternalProject feature).
In git there is a repository superbuild now, but it's not yet done.

Alex, can I make use of that now? I would like to tag RC1 tomorrow.

For which modules is this right now ?
 kdesupport, kdegraphics, more ?

kdeedu as well, kde-baseapps and kde-runtime.
