I just put an MTR2000 UHF repeater in commercial service, and I know
that it will also cover the Amateur 70cm band. It's pretty pricey for
most Ham groups, even if you get a stripped model. Be aware, the 100
watt model requires 28VDC, while the 60W and lower run on 12VDC. You
can save a few hundred by deleting the built-in power supply and the
4-wire interface. However, you should consider getting the speaker,
speaker cable, special local-control microphone, programming cable, and
the RVN4148 RSS. One other thing: The MTR2000 is intended to be
repaired by exchanging modules, so the detailed service manual does
NOT contain any schematics or parts lists. Although the MTR2000 is
pretty rugged and reliable, it is not a repeater that is
  user-serviceable.

---You don't use 62.5 ohm coax. You build a transformer (1/4 wavelength
or odd multiple of a 1/4 wavelength) out of conventional coax. Electical
1/4 wavelength of course, not physical :-)

On the other hand, some would argue the mismatch between 50 ohms and 75
ohms is hardly worth the effort and would simply return their duplexer to
match the different common port impedance.

[Repeater-Builder] RCA TACTEC for repeater ?

2004-01-20 Thread Jeff - N3YEA

Hi All,
In my yearly "it's too cold to go outside,
so I'll cleanup my shack" , I discovered that I have a pair of
working
RCA TACTEC radios, re-crystaled and re-tuned for 6
meters.Does anyonethink they would be worthwhile to
try and make a 6 meter repeater out of ?

Thanks !

[Repeater-Builder] Re: 75 to 50 ohm match

2004-01-20 Thread skipp025
As Ken mentions, you would probably consider
sections of quality 50 ohm cable. Going a
little more down the road, one would probably
cancel the resultant reactance with a variable
capacitor. The network would be band specific.

Ham Radio Magazine had a nice writeup with
the theory some years back. I might be able
to make that information avaiable or at least
provide the reference information.

cheers

[Repeater-Builder] db420 alternatives?

2004-01-20 Thread Mike Pugh
Ok guys, I waited too long to be able to buy a DB420 for the ham bands,
now I need one. We've been using Diamond antennas, but they keep
breaking in the wind. So, I need something else. Since I now have the $$
to buy a new antenna, but can't get a DB420 (my first choice for
repeater antennas) I need recommendations for a suitable substitute with
like characteristics for the 420.

2004-01-20 Thread randy kisthardt
I have been using catv hard line for 10 years and when i first used it
i made some matching transformers from copper pipe and compared it to
the line with out and didnt see aney differance swr or power or how
well the rx worked i still use it have several runns of differant
lengts and sizes and it works great never a problem but i might just
be luckey
A old ham told me if you never tell a transmiter its 75 ohm cable it
will never know the differance . so i never told my radios what i had
hooked up to em like the one guy said the mis match isnt that bad for
me the only chalange is the connecters
good luck
