 Al,

The Motorola part number HFD8457A is a VHF mobile notch-type duplexer
made by RFS/Celwave. The Celwave part number is 636-6A-5-3. It is for
150-160 MHz, with 4.5 MHz minimum spacing between TX and RX. It is the
standard duplexer used in GR1225, RKR1225, and GR400 repeaters.

It's a small six cavity unit, probably mobile, and probably 450 or 800

No, most UHF mobiles are 25-35 watts, as are the radios he mentioned,
but that is NOT continuous duty rated as is needed for a repeater. For
repeater duty, it MUST be turned down or it will burn up.

[Repeater-Builder] Need GE Phoenix Programmed

2004-02-06 Thread Derek B. McIntyre
Have several UHF band GE Phoenix radios that I'd like to use at link
hardware for a repeater. I know nothing about them. They work on
the programmed frequency, about 25 watts and 0.35 uV for full
quieting. Are these good radios in terms of general operation for
link service? If so, I am looking for someone to ship the proms off
to so I can get them programmed. I also have a GE MLS I think, 2
channel mobile with a slant face. This looks like a newer model.
Can anyone out there program this, too?

[Repeater-Builder] Programming Cable for TKR-850

Does any know if these are true RS232 or TTL signals required? Can I

I was pondering setting up a repeater on GRMS. I had assumed that the

Or just that the radio's were configured for Business band but were not

The first you need to ask is if they are type excepted for repeater use
 on the GMRS freqs.
I have yet to see any regular moblie radio's, from the factory, that
were type accepted for use as a repeater in the gmrs area.

Barely-the important thing is that, on the one you use for transmit,
KEEP THE POWER DOWN to abt 10-12 W And at that you should put a fan
  on the heatsink.
You'd be better off finding something like a Mitrek or Micor or Mastr II
turnk-mount mobile, or best, a real station (MSR-2000 is roughly
equivalent to a Mitrek mobile), and making a repeater out of it. They
are easy to duplex and interface to a tone panel. Also they have much
better receivers for high profile sites.
Besides, those radios are too nice to tie up on a fixed frequency
repeater. I use a 705D and an 805D in the car, and it sure is nice to
  have the field programmability.

Actually there aren't any specs that say that. What you have to make sure
is that the tolerance specs from the transceivers used meet or exceed the

much tighter freq. drift error specs..

The primary purpose is to allow the use of more than one tone/code on

Secondary purposes, usually reserved for newer panels, include usage

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Hybrid Ring Duplexers-Microwave usage

2004-02-06 Thread bradley glen
Hi

I do have some info but am in a state of go-between
into my new radio shack and all is in boxes.

For additional info you may want to look under
microwave RF designs and companies that produce
microwave components. All the digital radio channels in
long haul microwave systems use rings in their
antenna branching (similar to combining) .

From memory there are two paths from the input-one
path has a low insertion loss and the other a high
insertion loss. there is usually an impedence matching
r / L / C circuit to match and the resistor is to
broaden the resonance( extremely deep null).
In the one path there is a cavity. My rings were made
of semi-rigid to minimise leakage-braid is too
unstable.

They were a challenge and due to the deep nulls
extreme temperature changes can affect the workings
severely.Thet are challenging to maintain 100 %.

Since due to the tower seperation I have resorted to
sperate antennas-X200-N and only one RX cavity and all
has been working well for years this way.

Rings do have up to 4 dB loss- design dependant.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Why need a commercial community tone board ?

2004-02-06 Thread bradley glen
Hi Jim

I run a whole linked system on UHF and also two VHF
repeaters for my local club.

I have repeater panels on my main repeater
unfortunately not enough to do all but there is a
simple reason for repeater panels-especially
commercial ones.

I use the ZETRON 38A which has many features too long
to go into but the basics are here:
Management-Management-Management.

With DTMF if sitting at home or RS232 when at the site
via a laptopI can do the following.
Enable/disable the repeater
External relay swithching on given CTCSS \ DCS(ideal
for switching in a PA or preamp etc.
Program all the standard features such as each of the
50 tones as users or cross tone-change the lengh of
the tail-good for linkingetc.

Provide a good way to see airtime usage-CW id-good for
multiple groups such as emergency radios that do not
want to listen to general chat.
For testing I can remotely generate any single tone
and DTMF digit on command.

I can also enable the ANTI-KERCHUNK filters which is
very handy.
And the list goes on.
It is fine to run to the one repeater you own every
time it coughs and needs some testing-rEMEMBER FOR US
THAT HAVE 11 REPEATERS IT IS WORK-SMART .

If you can not get hold of a repeater panel you may
want to look at a more simple approach such as NHRC
pic repeater controller for the very simple and
reliable approach.
Kind regards
Bradley Glen ZS5WT

As long as its TYPE ACCEPTED for the intended purpose. Anyone with an FCC
license should already know this,if not, look it up. END THREAD.

 Lee -

I would be interested in the specific FCC Regs that prohibit a mobile (or
base station) to be used as a repeater.

I have seen many commercial repeaters made from two mobiles.

 Can you elaborate on that?

This is the first I've heard of it.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Need GE Phoenix Programmed

2004-02-06 Thread gervais fillion
derek,it is better to have the radio with his cpu and 2212.
they are 3 cpu's

G11,g12 and f66
depending also if your radio is scan or no scan
8 or 16 channel ,,,or 2

it is possible to programm them manually,,,but a lot of work.
there is the suit case that can do the job,
if you have no luck around you ,send me an email,i can do it locally,

Have several UHF band GE Phoenix radios that I'd like to use at link
hardware for a repeater. I know nothing about them. They work on
the programmed frequency, about 25 watts and 0.35 uV for full
quieting. Are these good radios in terms of general operation for
link service? If so, I am looking for someone to ship the proms off
to so I can get them programmed. I also have a GE MLS I think, 2
channel mobile with a slant face. This looks like a newer model.
Can anyone out there program this, too?

Thanks,
Derek KC4FWC

WHOA! Dont get caught changing that tag! Only the FCC can certify type
acceptance. Does anybody bother reading the rules or do we just make up our
own as we go along??? Very scary...73,Lee

Besides the 2PPM ICOM, the FCC label needs to be changed to
the correct FCC type acceptance number.
