The harness was changed because it was both bad and needed changing to
accomodate the retuning. Generally the higher freq harness is not long
enough
to allow the dipoles to be moved to where they should be. Some people
have used
the harness and dipole placement as they were originally but with a
slightly
higher VSWR. This does not give you the best pattern either.

I am not familiar with that particular model antenna. I currently
use a DB224 antenna that I modified about 10 years ago for use at
145.49Mhz. I figured how much to lengthen the loops by using ratio
and
proportion, I then cut the loops and added the necessary aluminum rod.
I had the added rod and all aluminum connections heliarced. The
antenna
has a very low VSWR and has given many years good service. This is
not
bad for a recycled commercial antenna that cost nothing but a $200

Was the harness changed to accomodate the antenna retunning, or to
replace a
  bad one.?

I have DB-304 antenna that at 156.100 gives a 1.2 VSWR at 50 ohms,
looks real good. I want to use this antenna at 146.925, shows a
VSWR at 1.5:1 at 74 ohms. What could be done to get this to a 50
ohm impedance? All help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Micor Key

2004-05-13 Thread Mathew Quaife
Neil, I read it. And agree, it's very informative. And at some point it
may become useful to me. If I did not already work 110 hours a week, and
had more time, I'd most likely pursue the radio repair that I left so long
ago. Right now, what my goal is, to get that long awaited repeater up and
running for our county, that until now, has never had a two meter repeater.
I plan to convert the micors to use, cause you guys say they are the best,
and when more than one says it, it must be true. I don't even want to make
a repeater out of one, just use the receiver, and the transmitter, connect
it to my RLC controller. The information that has been consumed here is
more than appreciated, and although I may not get to respond to all of them,
I do read them all, and put them away for future use. One day a week, and a
hour here and there, I just wished I had more hours in a minute. Thanks for
being there, all of you.

I read all of the 'I will mail you a key ...' comments. I can do
that too and had a hunch someone would do exactly that. I figured
if Mathew happened to read Mike Morris' effort on the web site, he
would have a better idea what the key situation really is all
  about.

Me? I have been collecting radio keys for about 35 - 40 years and
  have accumulated quite a few.

What do you mean 'old man' ??? you are 7 years, 9 days younger

Sharing with others is one of the things I try to do best.

2004-05-13 Thread Mike WA6ILQ
If the MSR uses the same tone board as a Mitrek mobile they
are not that expensive - last time I checked they were $20 each
at C. W. Wolfe Electronics, a used 2-way radio dealer in Billings
Montana at 406-252-9220. Ask for a HLN-4181 then learn how to
make your own tone elements at
http://www.repeater-builder.com/mitrek/mitrek-hln4181.html.
