Does anyone know if the TS-64 can be fully connected to the H4

about the transmit part. Anyone familiar with this that can assist

[Repeater-Builder] Source for custom made cables

2004-12-17 Thread w9mwq

Anyone know of a good source for made up custom cables for repeater
use. Or might someone have what I am looking for. I need a jumper
about 3.5' that has an N Male connector on one end and an RCA
connector on the other. This is for my receiver from the duplexer.
It is a mastr receiver, has a rca type connector on it. Or would it
make more sense to change the connector on the receiver to a type N
chassis mount. Just not real fond of the adapter I had to use to
convert it. Thanks.

RCA plug to BNC jack adapters are readily available.
With that adapter all you need then is a N to BNC

GE used an RCA connector with a short center pin,
unlike what you buy today. Make sure that, if you do

I have seen the cheap RG-214 type cables, but all the
genuine RG-214/U MIL-C-17 stuff I have used had silver
plated center conductor and double silver plated shield. I
learned from experience not to use anything less in duplex
service! (you can sometimes get away with it, but don't
count on it)

By the way, my Teledyne Thermatics cable is labelled RG214
MIL-C-17. Despite not having the '/U' it is the good stuff,
all silver plated center and double shield.

The cost of the connector installation is well worth it if they also perform
a sweep.

I have seen as much as $25 per connector.

The problem with TESSCO is they charge $7.00 per connector to install them
plus the cost of the hard-line and connector. That's $14.00 some folks out
there if you buy the parts from them do the install for free.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Cursed Coax

2004-12-17 Thread russ

You are 100% right but the cheap stuff will not have the /U on the end of
the number and lord knows that they made a ton of the bad stuff in the 70tys
to be used by the folks doing TVRO dishes. YEP the big ones. They uses
RG-214 between the LNA or LNB's to the receiver on the back side of the
dish. Then RG-6 to the set top box in the house. There must be a ton of this
stuff sitting in a warehouse some where that is coming out all over the
place here of late.
Be careful!

Someplaces will perform a free sweep if you buy the cable, connectors and
installation of connectors from them.

Most recent cable I purchased was 55 feet of LD4F-50A, with Andrew N Type
male connectors installed on both ends with a sweep for $210.00 plus
shipping.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Off topic WR95 AMP

2004-12-17 Thread skipp025

There's at least one or two WR amps and U-VHF Repeaters
making the (for sale) rounds through the West Coast
(Livermore) flea market and one or two spotted on Ebay.
I believe WR is/was a turnkey name for one of the other
companies making radios.

One or two of these for sale units had the manuals, but
they quickly get sold. I've never seen one working, but
I've seen a lot of them around.

cheers,
skipp

I'd like to place another call for information to the group about
this repeater. It seems to me I've seen mention on this list in the
past, that others here are using this machine in the ham band. I
want to confirm whether I can program/tune the machine for the US

I also still need a source for the manual.

I've already responded to Juan regarding his offer...

Thanks all ahead of time!

Normally I'd agree, but that RCA connector is kind of difficult to get at
there may not be enough room for a different connector.

You didn't mention if the Mastr Pro RX is VHF or UHF. If it's UHF, you're
probably already using a preamp ahead of it due to the high noise figure of
the stock receiver. Another 1/2 dB of mismatch loss due to the RCA
connector won't be noticable if it's downstream from the preamp.

2004-12-17 Thread russ

Hello Mark,
The answer is yes they work very well on both two meter (Kenwood TKR-750)
and wonderful on 440 (Kenwood TKR-850) they just came out with a ver. two
for the 850 and it does a few more things. Contact me direct and I will pass
along who I buy Kenwood repeaters from and they sell them tuned to the Ham
bands. Oh! The old software that worked the Kenwood TKR-850 will not work on
the ver. two you need the KPG-91D or better to program this newer repeater.

I'd like to place another call for information to the group about
this repeater. It seems to me I've seen mention on this list in the
past, that others here are using this machine in the ham band. I
want to confirm whether I can program/tune the machine for the US
Amateur 70cm band before I try to tackle it personally.

I also still need a source for the manual.

I've already responded to Juan regarding his offer...

 Thanks all ahead of time!

RE: [Repeater-Builder] Source for custom made cables

2004-12-17 Thread Mike Perryman

Bob,
You are on the same track as I am... I just think the ability to replace
the cable with a readily available jumper would simplify things in case of
a failure. Downtime can really hurt if it is a paying client in the
emergency services arena.

Say for instance, you are on vacation and the jumper gets damaged while
your bestes buddy trusted tech is watching your accounts for
you will he have a jumper in stock? Judging from the length of this
thread, probably not. Now the client is ill due to down time in a critical
application your spouse is ill due to having to cut the vacation short
because you had to race home to make things all better. Standardized
parts make life s much simpler.

Five minutes on the bench to standardize things can save boatloads of
grief later down the road!!

As I am not terribly familiar with the specifics of this installation, this
is only a suggestion...
You might relocate the point of entry to a better location, using UG-141
hard-line and the hooded Type-N chassis connector. If flexibility is
needed use the flexible variety of cable (the nomenclature escapes me at
the moment).

Like I said... just my 2 cents... YMMV. And one size certainly doesn't
fit all.
My standard disclaimer is here http://65.173.252.46/standard_disclaimer.htm

Wonder what the impedance bump for an RCA connector looks like at
say... 489MHz??

Normally I'd agree, but that RCA connector is kind of difficult to get at
there may not be enough room for a different connector.

You didn't mention if the Mastr Pro RX is VHF or UHF. If it's UHF, you're
probably already using a preamp ahead of it due to the high noise figure of
the stock receiver. Another 1/2 dB of mismatch loss due to the RCA
connector won't be noticable if it's downstream from the preamp.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: MASTR II mobile conversion question

2004-12-17 Thread Glenn Little WB4UIV

With the finger printing software out now, yes, by looking at the display
or printed data, the individual radio can be identified. I do not mean that
they can tell the difference between a MICOR and a MASTR. That is easy.
They can identify the specific radio that transmitted. It appears that each
radio has specific transmitted characteristics, such as PLL lock time,
amount of overshoot during lock up, specific subaudible characteristics and
the like. So the definate answer is yes.
