[Repeater-Builder] Re: Antenna Pattern Calculator?
Bill, How high is the tower above the area (on a mountain or valley floor)? HAAT (height above average terain)? Where is the tower in relation to the metro areas you want to cover? Is portable coverage a big deal? What big objects (mountains and conservative republicans :-) block the coverage? Type of antenna? Band of operation? Single Antenna? cheers, skipp Bill Powell [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm trying to build a case for moving out club's repeater system transmit antenna up the tower a bit. Right now the antenna is a stationmaster side mounted about 90' up a large tower. It's about 3' off the corner of the tower which, at that level is about 4' on each side with a section of Rohn 25 up the center as a cable conduit; NO cables are permitted to run up the tower legs. I want to calculate the apparent pattern and, in turn, load that data into RM and see just how bad the nulls are and what the effect would be of moving it up another 45', to the opposite side and 6' off that corner. Since we must have an insured pro do all climbing the try it and see approach isn't an option. Any suggestions for a calculator that would accept the necessary variables (offset, face, position off the corner or face? Bill - WB1GOT Yahoo! [Repeater-Builder] Temp on a bridge rectifier, anyone know
Can anyone tell me approximetly how warm a bridge rectifier will get. This is on a battery charger, consisting of a transformer, bridge rectifier and a filter cap. Input 120 volts with 12 volts out, at 5 amps, and tells me it is for battery type L. I don't know what L means, and the batteries don't say either. Currently the temp of the rectifier is about 200 degrees, does this seem accurate, it is drawing about 6 milliamps at this time charging the batteries. Mathew Yahoo! Re: [Repeater-Builder] Temp on a bridge rectifier, anyone know
If it's really only drawing 6 milliamps, and reaching 200F, something's seriously wrong. If it's drawing 6 AMPS, 200F is still a bit warm for me. If the rectifier is mounted to a chassis to act as a heatsink, and the entire chassis is getting that hot, I'd go looking for another charger or battery. If just the diode is getting hot, mount it to a heatsink and see if that helps. Bob M. == --- n9lv [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Can anyone tell me approximetly how warm a bridge rectifier will get. Re: [Repeater-Builder] Temp on a bridge rectifier, anyone know
The power supply says that it is only a 05 amp power supply, the meter on the front reads from 01 to 10. I myself thought it was getting to hot for the load. There is a possibility that one of the batteries could be bad, as two of them are older, but have no way to know until I charge them one at a time. I'm basically trying to get the repeater on battery backup. There is four batteries in the system, two are 90 amp hours and the other two are 75 and 85 amp hour batteries. The pack has a current charge of 12.7 volts, but has not been charged for the past month.Mathew "Bob M." Currently the temp of the rectifier is about 200 degrees, does this seem accurate, it is drawing about 6 milliamps at this time charging the batteries. Something's WAY wrong here. Try powering a light bulb with it, and see how it does. I wouldn't expect it to run more than warm, maybe 140-ish. Yahoo! [Repeater-Builder] Help on Arcom RC-110
I am trying to upload the 4.0 firmware in my RC-110 and having no luck. Queries to Arcom are being ignored with no response. The controller with the ver 3.1 firmware is unusable. The basicx program referenced in the 110 manual has a checksum if you download it and try to unzip. So no luck in getting the update uploaded. The controller uses ver 3.1 now and I want to put ver 4.0 in it. It exhibits some of the same problems that the RC-210 had when it was first released. The 210 problems seemed to clear up with the upload of the later firmware. I hope the later firmware for the 110 will do the same. I have tried to join the Yahoo group for the RC-110 and get no response from the moderator there either. Any advice would be appreciated. 73 - Jim - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo! Re: [Repeater-Builder] Help on Arcom RC-110
Hi Jim Sorry but I never saw an email from you (we are quite good at providing timely responses when we're aware of a question!). My apologies for your request not being answered up to this point. I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Are you saying you're having problems with NetMedia's program (the BasicX program) or with being able to actually upload the firmware to the controller? [Repeater-Builder] MSR-2000 RX Problem
Well my Motorola Mitrek radio's PA finally went. So I invested a heafty penny in the MSR-2000 VHF system. A couple of things I am having problems with, number one is I can only get a max of 20 Watts out. I have played with the PA and Exciter and can't get anymore than that. My second issue is with my older radio I was always having an RX problem. If it was a weak station it would sound like static or a lose ground on the antenna. Now that I have the same crystals (Elements) in the MSR-2000 I still have that same RX problem. Could there be something wrong with the RX Element? If so, is there a way to fix it or should I just order some new ones? So if anyone knows how to get a little more power out on my repeater and or fix the RX problem that would be most helpful. [Repeater-Builder] MSR-2000 How to I up the RF Power?
I have already increased the power on the exciter and PA, is there somewhere else that I can adjust? My max power so far is only 20 Watts. Aaron VA6AE Yahoo! Re: [Repeater-Builder] MSR-2000 RX Problem
First question that comes to mind on the output power problem and possibly the RX problem, what is the bandsplit of the MSR, as I recall (don't have my books in front of me) there are 3 band splits of the radio with the most sought after for ham use is the 136 to 151 Mhz, 150 to 162 which may stretch into the ham band, and 161 to 174 Mhz sounds like you may have a PA for one of the higher bandsplits which will limit your output power, check you PA number with what is listed in theservice manual and see what you have. As for your RX problem, if you hadthe same problemwith a previous radio with the same element, you may very well have a bad element or crystal, find another element and swap the crystal, retune and see if the problem still exists, if it does I'd look atgetting another crystal. did the RX element ever work correctly in your previous radio?
