[Repeater-Builder] RE: MSF5000 Questions

2005-07-16 Thread Tom S

To my knowledge, MSF5000 radios are RSS
programmable.

I have obtained a very good condition MSF5000
repeater. The Model # is C73CXB-7106BT. I'm wondering
if this is RSS programmable or whether a prom has to
be burned. Also wondering if it will receive on 144.57
and transmit on 145.170.

The CXB series are RSS programmable, while the CLB
series require the suitcase programmer. Make yourself
a programming cable with the instructions on Batlabs;
said cable plugs into the front panel connector but
the other end does NOT go directly to the computer (it
requires a RIB).

According to my MSF5000 service manual (very large and
very heavy), the model you have is good for 146-172 TX
and RX, so it may or may not work that low.

It's worth a try, but my experience with relatively
recent Motorola equipment has proven to be so-so at
best when it comes to moving it very far outside the
design frequency limits, especially on stations. The
TX side *might* work OK since it's less than 1 MHz
away from the design limits, but the RX side being 1.5
MHz away might be pushing it.

It's also possible that the RSS won't even let you
enter an out of band frequency. If it doesn't, try
hitting Shift+Enter instead of just Enter. If that
doesn't work you're outta luck.

I have a UHF MSF-5000 with an ACC RC-85 controller
interfaced to it using the instructions on Batlabs.
Works like a champ and has dyn-o-mite audio. Pix of
the machine are at http://www.wa8pyr.net and click the
Ham Radio link on the left side of the screen.
