Re: [Repeater-Builder] Retune Phoenix

2004-12-29 Thread Wade Lake

If I might make a suggestion, you may want to consider a Motorola
Mitrek. A friend of mine built the NC7J DX Cluster Node several years ago.
http://nc7j.qrq.com/site_description.htm When he did, he asked me what
radio would be good for this job. I suggested a Mitrek. We originally
looked for one that was the lower government split so it could be easily
tuned for 421 MHz. Those proved hard to come by so I tried tuning a
standard 450 - 470 MHz split radio. I was stunned by how well it worked,
without any noticeable degradation in TX or RX. The conversion to 9600 baud
packet was a snap too. This was around 7 years ago and the radio has
performed flawlessly. Also, you can pick up a Mitrek for 10 or 20 bucks at
a swap meet.

Not gonna do it. I had trouble getting one down to 440. Receive
sensitivity started falling off down there, maybe .4 I think?

Seems like a bunch of Canadian Railroad Phoenix's hit the market. They were
around 415 Mhz and would just tune to the bottom of the 450 US business
radio service. Ssb

2004-12-26 Thread Doug Bade

There are 420 versions of these radio's but the 450 ones will
mostly go to about 433 -435 without significant degradation. They do not go
well below 430
Govt versions of 406-420 are preferred at 421-425. There are Phoenix's and
MVS as well as MLS/MLS II in this split. Commercial banded ones are mostly
from Canada and our area of Cleveland and Detroit as 420 is commercial band
above line A in our areaBuffalo too

I have a couple 420 MVS's and maybe some Phoenix SX versions if you looking
for them...

[Repeater-Builder] Retune Phoenix

2004-12-26 Thread k0jxi

What is the lowest possible frequency that one could expect to retune
a 450 to 470 SX Phoenix and keep it stable with usuable sensitivity on
the rx? What I am wanting to do is get one down to the 421 to 425
range.

What about a MVS to do the same?

Thanks, Dale K0JXI
