Re: [Repeater-Builder] Duplexer Tuning HELP
Hi Michael. Would Recommend Ron Wright N9EE in Tampa Who owns an 2 meter Repeater in Tampa(very Knowligable. I'd like a real tune up rather than some backyard methods that were suggested ! All kiddin' aside I suppose you pay for what you get and I'd like to know they were done right. That would be the best, but you have avalibility and cost issues. On 4/16/05, Per Molund [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Or maybe Invar alloy for maximum temperature stability? ---per Yahoo! At 07:23 PM 4/15/2005 -0700, you wrote: The problem with the stability is that most of these were constructed using a Galvinised steel rod to set the tuning correct? I solved that problem by putting some slop into the connection between the rod and the plunger. It's kind of hard to explain, but I put two nuts on the threaded rod above the plunger, and two nuts below the plunger. I then locked each set of nuts so that the plunger had about 1/16 of play on the threaded rod. This made tuning a little more difficult. If you past either the notch or the peak, you had to back up and take out the slack before the tuning went the other way. Once I had it tuned, I turned the threaded rod one-half the distance that it took to take out the slack. At this point, the top nuts and bottom nuts are not touching the threaded rod. Therefore, there was no thermal pull on the plunger when the galvanized rod changed length. By now, you are probably wondering why I went through all the trouble! First, 22oMhz duplexers were hard to come by in the 1980's. Second, I'm a very stubborn person and I was going to figure out a way to keep them stable. 73, Joe, K1ike Yahoo! Re: [Repeater-Builder] duplexer tuning - help
Not in Indiana, but a comment. I Used one of those Duplexers years ago. Be careful where you locate it. Extremely sensitive to temperature variations. We had it on a mountaintop and retired it after the first winter. RE: [Repeater-Builder] duplexer tuning - help
I'm not an expert, but would be willing to help you tune them, I just got mine tuned, once I figured out what I was doing wrong, well not wrong, just did not know about the third set of cans changing things. Always willing to help. Re: [Repeater-Builder] duplexer tuning - help
I had a set of sewer pipe duplexers like what you are describing for 220Mhz years ago. I built a wood box, put a small light bulb and a thermostat inside and set it to about 90 degrees. These kept them fairly stable year-round. 73, Joe, k1ike At 07:44 AM 4/15/2005 -0600, you wrote: Not in Indiana, but a comment. I Used one of those Duplexers years ago. Re: [Repeater-Builder] duplexer tuning - help
The problem with the stability is that most of these were constructed using a Galvinised steel rod to set the tuning correct? Try a replacing it with a more similar metal to copper like brass or copper threaded rod if you can find it. or a plastic rod that has good tempreture charecteristics. What would be ideal are some threaded bushings with set screws and then the rod doesn't need to be threaded.
