hard to tell, it does flicker every now and then, i.e. more than jut once but
not each time. a few minutes later, btw., tab completion magically fixed
itself during the same session.

does it flicker once, and the stay off, or does it flicker everytime a
new completion should be started?

Re: tab completion

2021-04-16 Thread meik michalke
hi,

i'm again having problems with tab completion in the R console. i have no clue
what triggered it this time, i wasn't building packages but toying around with
a knitr table.

objects and commands are not completed, but argument completion after opening
the bracket of function calls is still working.

i've noticed that as soon as i start typing something, for the blink of an eye
there seems to be a context window appearing and dissolving immediately. so
the problem could be that completion is somehow still "there", but shuts down
automatically as soon as it is invoked.

this is really still bugging me. i wish i knew what goes wrong, but every now
and then tab completion is just gone until i restart RKWard. it seems to be
related to package building, especially if it fails. i have no clue.

so, this seemed to be good for a while, but just now it fails me again. i've
built a package and run tests which failed because of buggy examples. ther is
now no completion at all in the R console.

e.g., "data.fram" doesn't complete to data.frame, but as soon as i type
"data.frame(", the argument hints are still showing.

so far i was not able to reliably replicate this, it just happens like now.

Do you have a specific example to look at? Seems to work for me (if I
got your question right), but in particular for function names tab
completion often isn't possible until you have typed quite a few
characters, as there are so many similar names that no unique (partial)
completion can be found. Could that be the problem?
