For 35 years, Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty have gleefully played the pop
world . As The Timelords, Justified Ancients of Mu Mu (JAMs) and the The
KLF, the duo laughed all the way to the top of the charts while pioneering
sample culture and "stadium house" in the process.
After famously deleting their catalog in 1992, burning one million pounds
and instigating the art prank-supporting K Foundation, Drummond and Cauty
adhered to a 23 year-long silence (Illuminati reference intended) before
reuniting in 2017. In January and February 2021, the KLF brought their
catalog to streaming platforms for the first time in the first two of six
compilations.
The new documentary Welcome to the Dark Ages follows the first year of
Drummond and Cauty's on going reunion project: the construction of massive
pyramid of bricks made with human remains. Eager KLF fans and other game
spiritually minded folk purchase bricks (ostensibly made partially of the
ashes of the million pounds) The film also features a previously unreleased
version of The KLF’s song “Justified and Ancient” with Jarvis Cocker.
Online screening followed by Q Paul Duane (director) and other guests.
