sorry the subject I was talking about is ffmpeg-free vs ffmpeg-full (I
haven't formed my opinion yet about ffmpeg-free vs ffmpeg-full )

Re: FFmpeg package "main contact" change

2022-04-18 Thread Sérgio Basto
Hi,
before start I'd like state
First , I still don't have an formed opinion on this subject.
Second, I'm not defending anyone.

I saw that you still admin of ffmpeg and I think this is more a
symbolic thing , maybe a little childish, even , so moving on .

Now , indeed is good opportunity to discuss about the future of ffmpeg,
and ffmpeg-free vs ffmpeg-full

My first thought this will end up with all the people use ffmpeg-full ,
so this ffmpeg-free is kind of a scam allow some builds on Fedora ,
because need will end up to use full features , like x264 or AC3
decoders.
Other opinion ffmpeg-free just give much more work to all .

I could talk about many other things taht I will do if I got time but
today you propose move mpv to Fedora (
https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6279 )
can we see all or at least almost all or the most commons videos in mpv
with ffmpeg-free ?

Best regards,

Seems like there are a lot of communication issues recently and I'm
worried that you didn't bring this concern into our IRC channel first.
That seems to be the main point of discord.

If you were available in the #rpmfusion IRC:liberachat, we could build
a solution together instead of having everything stated into one
bugzilla (which is still useful, but only showing a subset of the
reasoning and less of the contruction).
Please also consider joining on the matrix fedora instance, using this
doc from sergiomb:
https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/Matrix%20tunneling

Also would also like to point that a common mistake is made with the
fact that we (as the RPM Fusion project) would be tight to any fedora
project decision beyond the packaging field. This is not the case by
default. We are a separate project, so any implicit community projects
rules apply, including coordination maintenance.

Seems you think you are solving something with your ffmpeg
intervention. I think this is not the case and I personally don't see
how to continue to talk with the fedora ffmpeg-free maintainer
anti-community behavior.
I don't want to further discuss this on this ml as I don't have time
to offer for gratis on this issue.

Also this is Easter this week-end, so I would recommend passing on
that and to raise any further questions next week (possibly on IRC).

Happy Easter to everyone.

FFmpeg package "main contact" change

2022-04-10 Thread Dominik 'Rathann' Mierzejewski
Dear developers,

I've just noticed that I'm no longer the "main contact" for ffmpeg:

https://admin.rpmfusion.org/pkgdb/package/free/ffmpeg/timeline

The change was done without any prior notification. Nicolas, please
revert the change and let's talk about this. Otherwise this sets a bad
precedent (any package can be taken over by admins at any time without
any process) and creates hostility in our community. I think nobody here
wants that.

Regards,
Dominik
