[rt-users] [rt-announce] RT mailing lists moving over to new community forum

2017-02-16 Thread Talena Gandy
Hello!

The various RT and RTIR mailing lists have been a great resource for help and
discussion since March 2000 (wow!). Today we're excited to announce that we're
taking a big step forward and migrating our community discussions to a
web-based forum hosted using Discourse.

Why the change? Discourse offers tons of great features that will help RT users
including a built-in search (which should also help as people do web searches)
and a really nice web interface for reading and commenting on posts. You'll
also have a user account allowing you to set various preferences to manage how
you interact with the community.

Worry not if you prefer email over a web site. Discourse has a mailing list
mode that will allow you to continue to receive and reply to posts via email.

Forum Features

The BPS mailing lists are a great resource for sharing information about RT and
RTIR, but some of that great information can be lost over time. In addition to
a native search, the forum will allow us to organize discussions by category
and topic, making information easier to find. We're also going to provide
several social login options so it will also be easier for new users to become
involved.

For more technical posts, Discourse offers formatting for code, including Perl,
to make things easier to read. Users can like and bookmark useful posts. At BPS
we'll be able to see which posts are popular, indicating a common feature
request, bug, or gap in the documentation.

There's way more and the best way to see the new features is to try it out for
yourself. Discourse hosts a site at try.discourse.org
where you can experiment to get ready for the
change.

Schedule

We are currently targeting early March for the cut-over. To seed the new system
with helpful discussions from the list, we are importing the last 5 years of
posts from the lists into Discourse. After a few hours of downtime, we'll send
a notification when the forum is up and running. We'll also pull in current
subscribers by email and you'll be able to use the "Forgot password" link to
set a new password.

We're looking forward to the next 17 years of great community discussion!___

[rt-users] [rt-announce] Announcing End Of Life for Request Tracker 4.0 Series

2016-09-08 Thread Talena Gandy
Hello!

Request Tracker 4.0, originally released in April of 2011, will reach end of
life on February 15, 2017. After that date, Best Practical will no longer
support the 4.0 series or publish new releases with bug fixes, security
updates, or new features. We recommend all RT 4.0 users upgrade to a supported
version, either 4.2 or 4.4.

Request Tracker for Incident Response 3.0, which ran on RT 4.0, already reached
end of life in March 2014. However, if you are still running RT and RTIR with
4.0/3.0, we encourage you to upgrade RT and RTIR to supported versions.

New versions of RT and RTIR come with instructions and tools to upgrade, and
upgrade notes for RT 4.2 and RT 4.4. Our website has details about our release
policy and a timeline of previous RT releases. We also offer commercial
professional services to upgrade older RT instances to the latest releases for
you. Contact us if you need help upgrading.

We hope you'll take this opportunity to upgrade and take advantage of some of
the new features in our latest releases.

Thanks for using Request Tracker!

* Los Angeles - September 12-14, 2016

[rt-users] [rt-announce] Request Tracker Training, Coming to LA in September!

2016-08-04 Thread Talena Gandy
Come one, come all to Request Tracker Training in beautiful Los Angeles! We’ll be there September 12-14!Day one focuses on the usage of RT for non-programmer admins and users. We walk through a common helpdesk config including rights management, workflow construction, notifications and the basics of Lifecycles. Day two begins with server side administration of Request Tracker. We’ll cover deploying and upgrading the software, as well as how to extend it. Day two will also cover basics of RT for Incident Response. And, of course, we’ll be highlighting new features in the latest releases, RT 4.4 and RTIR 4, throughout.Brand new for for this training: a third workshop day! You’ve been asking for it and we’re listening. For our third day BPS engineers will go through the process of creating a new extension for RT live. You’re encouraged to come prepared with ideas so you can follow along to make your own! The engineers will also be prepared to answer questions related to your own instances of RT. They’ll happily cover rights and administration via the web interface, config questions, scrips and template coding and setup, and custom code. If you have questions about the agenda not covered here, please contact us for clarification. For a wholly comprehensive experience, we highly recommend attending all three days at USD $1,990. If you don’t need the workshop day, a seat is USD $1,495 for the first and second days. If you’ve attended training before, or are highly experienced with RT, you can purchase a seat for just the workshop day, at $495. Please note that the third day will not cover broad areas like the first 2 days. Each day includes class materials, breakfast, and snacks. You can purchase a seat with a credit card at bestpractical.com/training#NextTraining. If you wish to pay via check or wire transfer, please drop us a note. If you are a support customer, from an academic institution, or wish to send more than 3 people please contact us first for eligible discounts. If you can’t make LA, we will be in Boston (our hometown!) later in the fall. And, as always, you can tell us where you’d like to see training.Thank you for supporting RT!___

RT 4.4 and RTIR Training Sessions https://bestpractical.com/training
* Los Angeles - September, 2016

[rt-users] [rt-announce] Join us in DC for Request Tracker training in May!

2016-02-11 Thread Talena Gandy
On the heels of releasing RT 4.4, we're thrilled to announce our next public
training session. Please join us in Washington, DC, on May 23-24, 2016!

This training will introduce you to the new features in RT 4.4 as part of a
comprehensive overview of RT. Whether you're an old hand at RT or a recent
convert, you'll have a good understanding of all of RT's features and
functionality by the end of the session.

Also, this session will include RTIR training! We will walk through the
incident response workflow, how to integrate RTIR with other systems, and how
to best leverage RT's features for security teams (especially the new ones in
RT 4.4!). We're also happy to show you the new flexible workflows that the next
version, RTIR 3.4, offers you.

We can’t wait to tell you about what we’ve added for you in RT 4.4, including
Assets, for tracking physical and digital resources. We’ll show you how to set
up service level agreements (SLA) which take your business hours and holidays
into account. There’s a new built-in timer for tracking time worked on tickets.
You can now upload multiple files at once with a quick drag-and-drop, as well
as reuse existing attachments on replies.

We’ll show how RT 4.4 improves things behind the scenes for you. You can have
your users authenticate against external services (LDAP). RT can now seamlessly
store attachments outside of its database, putting them on the filesystem,
uploading to Amazon S3, or in Dropbox. You can even serve them directly out of
S3. You can create custom role groups then assign them to queues and tickets.
These custom roles can have their own permissions and notifications. We think
you’ll find these are foundational for improving automation. There are also
some major performance enhancements like gradual ticket history loading that
will improve your team’s day to day experience.

Agenda

The first day of training starts off with a tour of RT's web interface and
continues with a detailed exploration and explanation of RT's functionality,
aimed at non-programmer RT administrators and users. We'll walk through setting
up a common helpdesk configuration, from rights management, constructing
workflows and notifications, and the basics of Lifecycles.

The second day of training picks up with server-side RT administration and
dives into what you need to safely customize and extend RT. We'll cover
upgrading and deploying RT, database tuning, advanced Lifecycle configurations,
writing tools with RT's API, building an extension, and demonstrate how to
extensibly alter the web UI and internal functions. RTIR will be the focus in
the afternoon of the second day.

It goes without saying that you'll get the most out of training if you attend
both days of the course, but we've designed the material so that you can step
out after the first day with a dramatically improved understanding of how to
use RT.

Attending

We do have a limit on how many people we can effectively teach, so please
register as soon as you can to make sure you get a seat. If you can't make DC,
please feel free to suggest a future location by dropping us a line at
train...@bestpractical.com!

For both days, the cost is USD $1,495. A single day is USD $995. Each class
includes training materials, a continental breakfast, and snacks (lunch is not
provided).

If you'd like to pay with Visa, MasterCard, or Discover, please visit Best
Practical's online store at shop.bestpractical.com. Unfortunately we are unable
to accept American Express or PayPal. If you'd prefer to pay with a purchase
order, please email us at train...@bestpractical.com. Be sure to include: if
you want to attend both days or a single day and the full names and email
addresses of attendees.

Finally, please contact us at train...@bestpractical.com for discounted pricing
if you are from an academic institution or if you'd like to send more than 3
people.

[rt-users] [rt-announce] Reminder: Sign up for our first Request Tracker training of 2014!

2014-03-04 Thread Talena Gandy
Just a reminder that Best Practical's first RT training is taking place on
March 19-20 in London, UK. This will likely be our only non-US public session
this year. This training will introduce you to the new features in RT 4.2 as
part of a comprehensive overview of RT. Whether you've been using Request
Tracker for years or are a recent convert, you'll have a good understanding of
all of RT's features and functionality by the end of the session.

For both days, it is USD $1,495 for one person. This includes training
materials, continental style breakfast, and snacks. You can register by heading
over to our shop to pay via credit card (Amex not accepted, unfortunately.) You
can also drop us a note at train...@bestpractical.com if you'd rather we send
an invoice. Finally, if you're from an academic institution, or would like to
send more than 3 people, let us know so we can give you a bit of a discount.
We're always happy to answer any questions, so please don't be shy.

[rt-users] [rt-announce] Best Practical's First RT Training of 2014- Featuring RT 4.2!

2014-02-12 Thread Talena Gandy
Greetings!

Our first training for 2014 will take place in London, England on March 19-20.
As we like to keep class sizes relatively intimate, register soon or we may not
be able to guarantee you a seat. If you can't make London, we will have
upcoming trainings this year in Dallas, Texas and Boston, Massachusetts. Please
let us know at train...@bestpractical.com if you're interested in these other
trainings, or if you have a suggestion for where we should hold one.

This training will introduce you to the new features in RT 4.2 as part of a
comprehensive overview of RT. Whether you're an old hand at RT or a recent
convert, you'll have a good understanding of all of RT's features and
functionality by the end of the session.

The first day starts off with a tour of RT's web interface and continues with a
detailed exploration and explanation of RT's functionality, aimed at
non-programmer RT administrators. We'll walk through setting up a common
helpdesk configuration, from rights management, constructing workflows and
notifications, and the basics of Lifecycles.

It goes without saying that you'll get the most out of training if you attend
both days of the course, but we've designed the material so that you can step
out after the first day with a dramatically improved understanding of how to
use RT or show up on the second day and get quickly up to speed on how to make
RT do your bidding.

For both days, the cost is USD $1,495. Single days are USD $995. Each class
includes training materials, a continental breakfast, and snacks (lunch is not
provided).

If you'd like to pay with Visa, MasterCard or Discover, please visit Best
Practical's online store.
Unfortunately we are unable to accept American Express or PayPal. If you'd
