[RollTideFan] Name Dropping

2003-11-03 Thread Joel Perry
Possible candidates for next football coach at Mississippi State
Associated Press

Mississippi State athletic director Larry Templeton says he has a list of
about a dozen coaches who could end up being the next Bulldogs head coach.
Who's on that list? Since Templeton's not telling, here's an educated guess
(in alphabetical order).

Tommy Bowden, 49
Current position: Clemson coach.
Background: Started fast at Clemson, but has come under fire in recent years
as the Tigers have failed to contend for ACC title. Has led Tigers to bowl
games in his first four seasons and is on target for fifth. Son of Florida
State coach Bobby Bowden, brother of former Auburn coach Terry Bowden.

Sylvester Croom, 49
Current position: Green Bay Packers running backs coach.
Background: Former Alabama All-American, he coached at his alma mater from
1977-86 and has been an assistant with five NFL teams since then, including
a stint as Detroit's offensive coordinator (1997-2000).

Jimbo Fisher, 38
Current position: LSU offensive coordinator.
Background: Offensive coordinator at LSU since 2000. Before that he held
same position at Cincinnati. He was among the candidates when Mississippi
State hired an offensive coordinator in 1998, while he was Auburn's
quarterbacks coach.

Fitz Hill, 39
Current position: San Jose State coach.
Background: In his third season at San Jose State, the Spartans were 11-21
under Hill heading into Saturday. Previously, was an assistant coach at
Arkansas. Has a doctorate in higher education and served in the first Gulf
War.

Urban Meyer, 39
Current position: Utah coach.
Background: In his first season at Utah after two seasons as head coach at
Bowling Green, where he was 17-6. Was wide receivers coach at Colorado State
and Notre Dame for 10 years before becoming head coach. Worked under Sonny
Lubick and Lou Holtz.

Guy Morriss, 52
Current position: Baylor coach.
Background: Former NFL offensive lineman who is in his first season at
Baylor. Coached two seasons at Kentucky, taking over the program when it was
headed toward NCAA sanctions. Went 9-15 at Kentucky. Baylor was 3-5 heading
into Saturday.

Gary Patterson, 43
Current position: TCU coach.
Background: In his third season at TCU after replacing Dennis Franchione.
The Horned Frogs are 24-9 under Patterson. Was defensive coordinator under
Franchione from 1998-2000 and TCU ranked No. 1 in the nation in total
defense in 2000.

Randy Shannon, 36
Current position: Miami defensive coordinator.
Background: Won the Frank Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant in
2001 when the Hurricanes led the nation in turnover margin, scoring defense
and pass-efficiency defense. A former defensive assistant with the Miami
Dolphins. Has never coached outside the city of Miami.

Charlie Strong, 42
Current position: Florida defensive coordinator.
Background: Has 20 years of college coaching experience, running South
Carolina's defense from 1999-2002. On his fourth stint with the Gators and
was a Notre Dame assistant from 1995-98. Has interviewed for the head
position at five schools in last two years.

Bobby Wallace, 52
Current position: Temple coach.
Background: Jackson-native and former Mississippi State player and coach.

with North Alabama in the mid-1990s. Has never had a winning record at
Temple.

Watson Brown, 53
Current position: UAB coach.
Background: Jackie Sherrill's first offensive coordinator at Mississippi
State, has also been head coach at Cincinnati, Rice and Vanderbilt. Guided
UAB through its transition to Division I-A. Has 45-52 mark in nine seasons
with Blazers.

Doug Williams, 47
Current position: Grambling State coach.

Super Bowl -- and earning MVP honors in the game. Has led his alma mater to
three straight SWAC championships. Was interviewed for the Kentucky job when

[RollTideFan] FYI - (Non)

2003-11-03 Thread TIDE1

I found the following rather amusing. A friend of mine sent it, so I
*assume* it is true. I'm just t lazy to check it out!

Here's something odd. The Barnes Noble Web site has its own list of
'Year-to-Date Bestseller'--the 'top 100 bestselling books for Barnes
Noble stores and Barnes Noble.com, for January-September, 2003.'
Hillary's book (Living History) is nowhere to be found. The list only
goes to No. 100, so there's no telling where she ranks, but it is below
the No. 95 book, which is called -- we kid you not -- 'Captain
Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy, Part 1'.

I have to bring this one back to the top because I have to say that
Lee's
comment here is about the dumbest quote I have ever heard in my life!!!
You are saying that when Shaud was running behind two old ladies and two
guys in a wheelchair while at Texas Tech and getting 1000+ yards it
wasn't
that he is good enough to get yards without a line?

Dude you need to check itI guess you were a linemanme? I was a

Shaud cannot complain too much since he is 3rd in the nation in rushing.
Brodie's problem was the outside rush (ie, Britt, Mathis, and Herrion).
Brodie wore Ritzman like a coat all day.

Actually I do.
Look at his rushing attepts..then take a gander at his attempts with us to
date. 112 to 208!
I was making a statement of theory. I did not know what his totals were and
they are irrelevant in the scheme of things. All I know is that he did not
play as the sole back or the numbers would have been better at TT. He was in
a rotation of 3-4 backs (FB included) which ran the ball as a group.
Now, Shaud is the only RB to start and that means his numbers should be
up...and they are. No matter who is lined up in front of him!

That was the point being made...

In 2000 he didn't play much and you cannot count that. You seem to be one
that will say statistics tell the story. I don't agree.
Yes, we may have ran the ball well in a few games, but when Shaud breaks a
run for 80 yards due to his ability and gets 100 for the game don't tell me
the OL was pushing them back all game long!

I guess we will just have to agree-to-disagree!

Well, it may be dumb. However, the fact that you failed to do your research
is dumber. As you can see from this link, Shaud rushed for 658 yards in
1999, and 223 in 2000. So, there were no 1,000 yard seasons at Tech. As
for his line at Tech, I doubt you have a clue as to who was blocking for
him.

I did not know what his totals were
and
they are irrelevant in the scheme of things. All I know is that he did not
play as the sole back or the numbers would have been better at TT. He was
in
a rotation of 3-4 backs (FB included) which ran the ball as a group.
Now, Shaud is the only RB to start and that means his numbers should be
up...and they are. No matter who is lined up in front of him!
