Crap, I just emailed it to the list as well. Joe I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue. Barry M. [RollTideFan] Texas QB to camp at Bama
Texas QB to camp at Bama March was a busy month for Christian Ponder. The quarterback from Colleyville-Heritage, Texas made unofficial visits to Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida State, Arkansas, SMU and TCU. Over the next two weeks he'll finish his whirlwind tour with visits to Georgia Tech, North Carolina and South Carolina. "I'm planning on making my decision by September, so it's good to get out and see all these schools and meet and talk with their coaches now," says the 6-2½, 207-pounder. "I'll graduate early next year and I plan to enroll in college in time for spring practice next year. I want to see as many places as early as I can so that I can be prepared to make a decision." Ponder attended Alabama's A-Day game on March 19. "It's a great atmosphere there at Alabama," he says. "They have a great tradition for winning at Alabama with Coach Bryant and all their great coaches." Ponder is also impressed with Bama's current staff. "They seem to be great guys," he says. "I stay in contact with their quarterbacks coach [Dave Rader] on a regular basis. We exchange e-mails and we send each other instant messages over the Internet. I like him a lot. He seems to be a great guy." Ponder, who already has scholarship offers from North Carolina and Georgia Tech, says that he's wide open on his college choices. His brother attends Texas A&M. His father, David Ponder, played at FSU. "I like A&M, but I wouldn't say they are at the top of my list," Christian Ponder says. "My brother goes there. And I like their quarterback coach [Les Koenning]. He seems to be a real cool guy. "My dad is really big on Florida State. I grew up a big Gator fan. My room was orange and blue and I had Florida blankets and stuff like that. But my father made sure that all that changed." Ponder says that Alabama, A&M and FSU would like for him to attend their summer camps to see him in passing drills. A favorable impression at those camps might earn him more scholarship offers. "I'll be going to Alabama's camp in early June for sure," Ponder says. "I'm also thinking about camping at Georgia, Texas and Florida State." Ponder, who passed for over 1,500 yards and six touchdowns in a run-oriented offense last season, is confident that the college coaches will like what they see of him as a passer. "I have a pretty strong arm and I'm good at buying time in the pocket," he says. "I'm definitely a thrower first. But I have mobility. I can run if I need to." In an effort to showcase Ponder's passing abilities, Heritage HS will switch to a spread offense this coming season. "Yeah, I like that," Ponder says of the change in systems. "Our head coach is going to take over the offense and he's going to open things up. Plus, we'll have some good receivers to throw to. It will give me an opportunity to show what I can do." Note: Ponder has been timed at 4.7 in the 40. ___ RTF mailing list RTF@rolltidefan.net http://rolltidefan.net/mailman/listinfo/rtf_rolltidefan.net
