Baseball Brawl
6-19-03
We've all seen and heard stories about parents getting really upset at
various sporting events. In Maumee, a little league baseball game ended
in a brawl last night. Police say the fight started between two players
and ended with parents throwing punches. Fifth- and sixth-graders in two
little league teams watched their parents duke it out after the game.
Police say the brawl started because one of the parents tried to get in
the middle of two players. A fight between two little league players
escalated to a brawl between parents.
James Lipscomb says things got out of control, when a St. Patrick's
parent grabbed his son -- who goes to Newbury School. I ran over there
and grabbed the man by the arm and said 'look, that's my son, let him
go', then I shook him again and said 'let him go, that's my son'. At
that point, police say fans from Newbury School jumped in, and began
punching the St. Pat's parent several times. Detectives say Newbury
players even began kicking the parent while he was on the ground. Police
say the only two adults charged with assault are Newbury assistant coach
Jamie Aldaco and his relative Richardo Aldaco. Other adults were
involved in the assault but police say the Aldacos are responsible for
the serious injuries suffered by the St. Patrick's parent.
James Lipscomb says he's embarrassed about the whole ordeal. I'm
disgusted the way parents acted at game as well as how the kids act. We
did talk with the St. Patrick's parent who was beat up; he did not want
to talk on camera but says he was just trying to stop the two little
league players from fighting, and can't believe how things got out of
control. As for the two players who fought, they're charged with
disorderly conduct.
