I'm a legacy, too. Since I am slightly older than you, it was radio's that
got whacked because the games weren't on TV.

Convert - I was born in Tenn and my daddy attended Vanderbilt then graduated
from Tenn Tech. We moved to Alabama when I was 2 and he went to work for
Redstone Arsenal and then later for NASA. He actually took some classes at
UT - way back when, but since he is a mega Bama fan now I have forgiven him.
Two of my kids are Bama grads and I got both my masters and phd there. My
grandson turns two years old next week and 'Roll Tide' is already a part of
his limited vocabulary. He is being raised right!

[RollTideFan] Convert or Legacy?

2004-07-02 Thread Howard Fore
Count me Legacy! Born in Texas but raised in LA (lower Alabama) since
the age of six weeks. Everyone that grows up in Alabama has to make a
choice and of course the right choice is BAMA. My sister attended UA and
graduated. But the best time I remember about those years is the Sunday
Dinner at my parents house when Bear Bryant, Joe Namath came for lunch.
That was a good time! The Bear asked me what I was interested in, He
sized me up not being of great height or size at age 9, when I answered
that I was in the band and working toward All State. He replied in that
low grawl , finish up with high school and come on to Bama and play in
the Million Dollar Band, boy. Joe Namath had really bit hands cause I
was thrown around in the yard a little bit.

Finished high school applied to UA and audtioned for the Million Dollar
Band and was accepted by both BUT changed my mind due to career goals
(ever how misguided they were at the time) and went to UAB. At that time
it was still an adjuct facillity of UA and we had to take classes in
B'ham and Tuscaloosa. So as long as I can remember there is really only
one football team and UNIVERSITY- BAMA!

Sure will, My dad was big in the Quaterback Club for our high school and
my sister was involved with activities at the Baptist Student Union . So
they hatched an idea to invite Coach Bryant down to talk with our players.
An Invitation was sent to Coach Bryant and he accepted. But as a kid of 8

I am a very serious legacy. My dad grew up a Bama fan,
and taught at UA (sort of). What is now USA in Mobile
started out as a very small extension campus of UA and
my dad taught accounting there when it first started. My
mom only attended one year of college, but it was at UA.
So, when some one asks me how long I have been a Bama
fan, I just tell them that my mom and dad raised me right! :-))

2004-07-01 Thread Rick McMahan
I'm a 1st generation Tide fan. My Dad has always been an aub and Mom didn't
care for football at all (she still doesn't). I started learning and
following the game in 1969 and the Crimson Tide was and always has been my
favorite team. Concerning football, the one thing my Dad and I have always
had common is our hatred for those hillbillies. He hates them just as much
as I do. I loved Coach Bryant too and he was probably the biggest reason I
can think of for becoming a worshipper of Crimson Tide football. He was so
damn awesome back in those days. I've raised all my children right, each and
every one cheer for the Tide and one will graduate from the UofA this
December.

ROLL TIDE ROLL!!! Drown 'em Tide!
