BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Hoover quarterback Jarod Bryant was named Alabama's Mr. Football by the Alabama Sports Writer's Association on Wednesday after throwing for 29 touchdowns in his senior year and guiding the Bucs to the Class 6A state championship.

Bryant's 73 points beat out Pinson Valley quarterback Desmond Jennings' 67 — the closest race ever. Trinity's Tommy Trott, named 4A Back of the Year, came in third with 58 points.

"I was hoping to win a state championship and then... this," said the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Bryant.
