Over the past 20 years, Auburn has had four unbelievably remarkable opportunities to slam the door on Alabama's sorry ass and they managed to wriggle out every time. Incredibly, Tuberville now gets the dishonor of being the only man to let Alabama slip away TWICE! In 1990, Pat Dye clearly committed the transgression. After Alabama's First Time Ever visit to Auburn, the Auburn program was sky high and the Alabama program was badly reeling from the whole Bill Curry fiasco. Gene Stallings came in and lost his first three games at Alabama and Auburn whipped Florida State at Jordan-Hare. And then it all slipped right through Dye's hands. Florida exposed #2 Auburn as a pretender, and Alabama was allowed to execute the Great Escape by rallying to beat a superior Auburn team in Birmingham. Next, Terry Bowden stepped up to the plate and struck out in 1996. Alabama was decked by their first probation and Bowden had just reeled off an incredible three-year start at Auburn. Alabama was laying down in the coffin ready to be buried, and Bowden managed to choke his way through three subsequentially horrible seasons and simultaneously breathe life right back into a flat-lined Alabama. Next, Alabama desperately attempted suicide over the monumental Mike Dubose debacle and ceremoniously laid its head on the chopping block. All Tubby had to do was beat an unranked Alabama in Auburn in 2001 and they would have been cooked and done. But, oops! Eveybody stand clear while Tubby works the defibrillator on Alabama. I realize that Auburn and Alabama haven't played yet, but I work in Tuscaloosa. I know what I'm seeing all around me. First there's probation, then there's Coach Fran's departure, then there's Price's strippers, then there's Shula's racial issue. Could Alabama have been any deeper in the hole in August? Could nailing the coffin shut have been any easier? I can personally attest to the words of Alabama fans all around me every day at work, and their Herculean rejuvenation of spirit is based at least half due to Auburn's embarrasing collapse. Somehow, without even playing Alabama yet this season, Tuberville has managed to give them the life they so desperately needed. Thanks for nothing, Tubs. Went to my baby's U15 game tonight in Huntsville. We received a pounding to the tune of 6-1. Sure glad we didn't sing rammer jammer before the game! :) Moving right along... so what is the general consensus among us friends regarding Saturday night's game? Is Bama gonna pound the kitties? I believe we have a good chance of seeing Bama hang some big numbers on the cat defense. I'm thinking to the tune of about 45-50 points. What say ye? Is Bama going to put the Okie loss behind them and play a near perfect game against UK? That's what I'm hoping for...
