Oh; your mail was not classified as spam to me. Sorry about the
delay in my response. Sorry to hear about your woes trying
to access gmail from the commandline. Perhaps you can
use the .mailrc file I posted as a template.

Thank you for the tip.

I have implemented this and apparently, it is working.

Well, the .mailrc file I posted does work.

Thank you for your input and suggestions.

With *v15-compat* we now default to "plain", which should result
in a smoother configuration experience in real life (pushed to the
[next] branch).

 |

 |This is what my current .mailrc file looks like:
 |
 |account gmail {

Dear Josef, first of all it is good to know that S-nail users can
still access gmail.com from within the command line! All *i* can
see is along

  ?141[steffen@sherwood nail.git]$ echo hello|

But whatever i do, this won't go away.
(It seems that Google always classifies my mails as SPAM, which
makes me hope you will be able to read this one at all. H.)

 |  set folder=imaps://josef.ju...@imap.gmail.com
 |
 |  set smtp-use-starttls
 |  set ssl-verify=ignore
 |  set imap=imap.gmail.com:993

What is this for? Is this a request for "an automatic"

  shortcut imap imaps://imap.gmail.com:993
  ghost xi 'fi imap'

And then..? The "imap" command is taken for a different purpose,
at least until v15, when it will vanish. And i hope later there
will be a possibility to have multiple mailboxes open at a time,
so which of those should then be opened via "pop" or "imap"?

 |  set smtp=smtp.gmail.com:587
 |  set smtp-auth-user=josef.ju...@gmail.com
 |  set imap-cache=~/MYMAIL
 |}
 |account gmail

May i suggest to you -- in case you plan to stay with S-nail from
now on, what i hope -- two things: you surely set *ssl-verify* to
ignore on purpose, but i _really_ would recommend "strict" and in
addition also enforce the TLS v1.2 protocol instead, which works
for gmail.com (otherwise someone is trying to trap you). I don't
know what kind of emails cross your Google account, or what your
other Google activities are, but your account credentials will go
over the wire and i wouldn't want to see a user of S-nail
vulnerable.

And then, while you are changing your configuration anyway,
you could convert the syntax to be v15 compatible already today.
The ArchLinux Wiki page [1] is i think the most user friendly
survey of S-nail configuration that exists, you may want to look
at that one too (it is even viewable from the command line via
lynx(1), for example) -- i'm quite unhappy with the manual
instead, but unfortunately it will take more time to improve
that..  But how about

  account gmail {
set v15-compat
set ssl-verify=strict ssl-method=tls1.2
set smtp-use-starttls smtp-auth=plain \
  smtp=josef.jurek%40gmail@smtp.gmail.com:587
  }
  account gmail

  [1] https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/S-nail

By the way, i've never used an account name with @ (over SMTP),
does this really work? It ends up as
"josef.ju...@gmail.com@gmail.com" on the SMTP level, which makes
me wonder a bit?

The missing ingredient is probably "set smtp-auth=plain", as the default is now
"none".
