SAM Disks from PC
Hi all I need to format 3.5'' disks to use with my SAM. Formating them on my SAM, they fail on my PC using Samdsk utility (only 1 out of 10 passes through). Is there a tool to format them on my PC and transfer the image, using the same disk drive? Thanks in advance Voyager
Re: SAM Disks from PC
Hi George. As I have had the same problem as you, my problem was, that my PC was too fast (500 Mhz) for using SAMdisk. I solved that problem with a little DOS program called Moslo, which reduces the speed of the PC CPU. You have also to start the moslo program and samdisk under DOS. Moslo and SAMdisk must be in one folder. If your computer is also very fast and you will try Moslo, then write to me personally and I send you this useful program as attachment in my answer under your adress. This is, because writing under the newsgroup adress often let us send an attachment as answer also to this. BTW: Which programs are you looking for? For all: The working syntax by me is: moslo/n50 samdisk.exe Greetz to Greece Wolfgang/SPC Gernmany George Kourvaras schrieb: Hi all I need to format 3.5'' disks to use with my SAM. SAM-Website updated
Hi again. Just a short note to those who are interested (and this was a lot as I see in my statistics): I have updated my new site and did also some cosmetics ;-) Visit: www.womoteam.de/SAM Any help is still welcome (as any comment). Thanks for telling me, that it has to spelled website instead of webside and for the hint, that the plural of information in english is not informations. I have corrected it to a lot of information (what it really will be!). Solong Wolfgang Haller / SPC Cologne, Germany
Re: SAM Disks from PC
Hi Wolfgang, I have tried to run the SAMDSK on a AMD1400 and on a very slow AMD486/100 without external cashe (both of them booting in Win98a DOS) with the same problem. It seems that the SAM drive is rather incompatible with the 1.44 drives used on both my PCs. As for the programs, I am looking for *everything* : I have almost nothing but the images of Fred up to 70something. Any SAMDOS (original) disk image would be appreciated :) as well as any game, tool, demo. I want to make a full database of working s/w for the SAM, running on a real SAM. Could you help me please? :))) Greating from the sunny Athens George. - Original Message - From: Wolfgang Haller [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: sam-users@nvg.ntnu.no Sent: Monday, April 08, 2002 2:46 PM Subject: Re: SAM Disks from PC Hi George. Re: SAM Disks from PC
Is there a tool to format them on my PC and transfer the image, using the same disk drive? Here is a snip of a reply mail from Ian Spencer about MakeDisk, which my be useful: I don't have any original sam disks, so i can't format them. Is there a software or a tool to format them using a PC? If you can find a copy of TeleDisk and a TD0 image file from NVG then that will write the formatting as well as the data, you can then drop the required image onto that disc. I used to use a blank disc image and TeleDisk for creating sam formatted discs when, ahem, at work but the poblem with TeleDisk is that it it rarely works on any PC's of Pentium class and above due to hardware incompatibilites. You could try this - an Atari ST disk image manipulator called MakeDisk V1.5 (http://perso.libertysurf.fr/charmed/atari/makedisk_v15.zip) can write and format non-standard disc sizes so you could use it to create a blank image of 80 tracks, 10 sectors and 2 sides and then use it again to write that blank image to a floppy. I'm sat on an NT box which doesn't like MakeDisk too much so I can't test it at the mo - I'll try it at home tonight if I get time. Dan. Thanks Dan I have also had a problem formating SAM disks since I packed away my SAM and just used SIMCOUPE. The MakeDisk utility for the Atari worked just fine on a Pentium III 1Ghz. I tried in in a DOS box but was warned it might not work and it didn't but starting the machine in DOS mode solved the problems . I created an image and then wrote it to a DD disk using the WRITE command with formating and it works just as it should allowing .DSK images to be copied onto it and read back and so I'm pretty sure the diskette would also work in a 'real Sam'. If you have a W95/98/2K box then the best package to use for writing DSK/SAD images is Edwin's Disk Manager. The only thing you will need to do is make sure the discs are Sam formatted before you write to them (see above) You can grab it from http://www.designing.myweb.nl/samcoupe/software/diskmanager/diskmanager.htm Dan. I for one think the website is great. It's full of useful information. I wouldn't worry about the spelling, though, as you're not the only one here who can't spell. Auf Wiedersehen!
