[Samba] mount.cifs problems

2004-06-06 Thread Vernon A. Fort
samba-3.0.3-5 on fedora core 2. I have successfully joined the domain
and can access samba shares from windows clients/server.

I can connect to windows 2003 shares using smbclient but I cannot mount
windows shares on using either smbmount or mount.cifs
Using smbmount, I always get "cli_negprot: SMB signing is mandatory and
we have disabled it" - I do have the following:

  client use spnego = yes
  client signing = yes
  server signing = yes
Using mount.cifs - all I get is "mount error 13 = Permission denied" and
dmesg returns

CIFS VFS: Send error in SessSetup = -13
CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -13
Can someone point me in the right direction?!?

[Samba] Excluded profile folders sync'd on logout

2004-06-06 Thread Richard Wallace
Hello all,
I'm trying to get folder redirection working with roaming profiles and
Samba 3.0.2a and Windows XP clients. I've followed the Samba 3 by
Example document and have change the User Shell Folders registry key and
created a Default User profile in the netlogon share and set the machnes
group policy for excluding the directories from the roaming profile.

Everything is working properly AFAIK except for one thing, when the user
logs out, Windows XP displays a dialog with a progress bar and says its
syncing the profdata share. If I copy a big file to the Desktop, say
something around 70MB, this sync takes a long time, like it's copying
the file to the server or off the server or something.

The registry key for the "User Shell Folders\Desktop" is set to
\\%LOGONSERVER%\profdata\%USERNAME%\Desktop and I have Desktop as one of
the folders in the "Exclude from roaming profiles" list. I've also
tried enabling the "Delete cached profiles" with no luck. What am I
missing?

Thanks,
Rich

[Samba] question on "Samba-3 by Example"

2004-06-06 Thread abebe lsslp
Hey,
I have a Fedora Core 1 machine with Samba 3. I was reading the "Samba-3 by Example"
samba guide and I am having trouble understanding Chapter 3 section 3 ("3.3
Implementation" section of "Chapter 3 Small Office Network").

On the entry for Network Printers in '/etc/hosts', are the IP numbers provided beside
the printers the print server's IP addresses?

I'm feeling kind of stupid asking this, because deep inside I think I know the answer.
Is the answer, yes? :)

Here is what it says:
**

2. Place an entry for the machine sleeth in the /etc/hosts. The printers are network
attached, so it is desirable that there should be entries for the network printers
also.An example /etc/hosts file is shown here:

192.168.1.1 sleeth sleeth1

192.168.2.1 sleeth2

192.168.1.10 hplj6

192.168.1.11 hplj4

192.168.2.10 qms

**

Thanks :)

Re: [Samba] LDAP authentication problem

2004-06-06 Thread Erik Holst Trans
Hi Alexander,
First of all, you do not need to make any configuration in your
slapd.conf, this is only if you want to run a LDAP server on your Samba
host.
If you want to use an Novell LDAP server you need to extend its LDAP
schema first, to support the ObjectClass'es and attributes that Samba
uses/need. You probably have to find a version of the schema file that
is compatible with your LDAP server, Novell's LDAP server does't like
the syntax of the standard samba.schema file.
Afterwards you probly need an LDAP-Editor to access the server to add
ObjectClass'es and attributes to user accounts you want to "Samba enable".
Netware Administrator and ConsoleOne don't support those (yet).
Best regards

Re: [Samba] Clients can find printer when

2004-06-06 Thread Steve Cohen
YES!
Success.
Well, sort of.

>From one XP box (actually it's a VMWare virtual machine on the same physical
machine as the printer is connected to) all is well. Printing works. The
only problem was that I had specified a non-existent directory for my raw_q
queue to spool to. Changed it to the standard one and all is fine.

Question for the group - is it good practice for different queues to spool to
different dirs or does that matter.

>From the other XP box, this a real one, we had some success as well. We are
now able to attach to the raw_q queue and everything looks good. But there
appear to be bad connectivity issues and the print jobs fail.

This is leading me back to consider the issues with the Domain Master Browser.
I don't know how to configure one of the Windows boxes to be the DMB.

But the main issue is solved.

[Samba] Password trouble with LDAP (eDirectory)

2004-06-06 Thread Erik Holst Trans
Hi All,
I have a strange problem with passwords, stored in LDAP.
When i try to logon as a user with the correct password, access is
denied and the log says
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [administrator] ->
[administrator] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER

When i try to logon a user with incorrect password, access is (of
course) denied, but the log now says
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [administrator] ->
[administrator] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD

I have now tried for several hours to solve the problem, but can't find
out what is wrong and need some new input for solvin this.

Below are some snippets from the log, maybe this is useful for you and
the smb.conf too.

Best regards

I had a lot of issues trying to print to this exact printer via a network
configuration...just a thought that it may not be completely a _you_ thing

Hey, thanks, not sure what "printing with cups" documentation you meant, but I
googled and found http://de.samba.org/samba/docs/man/CUPS-printing.html
Was this the doc you were referring to?

This immediately seems to be getting somewhere. I didn't have
printcap name = cups
in my conf. And putting it there immediately changes the pattern, although
still not success:

[2004/06/06 13:59:20, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_job_submit(655)
Unable to print file to EpsonC82 -
client-error-document-format-not-supported

But that at least looks logical.

OK, now on to here:
"Raw Print Serving Vendor Drivers on Windows Channels"

http://de.samba.org/samba/docs/man/CUPS-printing.html#id2557437
which lists these steps

   1. Edit /etc/cups/mime.types to uncomment the line near the end of the
file that has:
#application/octet-...
OK, DONE.

   2. Do the same for the file /etc/cups/mime.convs.
OK, DONE.

   3. Add a raw printer using the Web interface. Point your browser at
http://localhost:631. Enter Administration, add the printer following the
prompts. Do not install any drivers for it. Choose Raw. Choose queue name Raw
Queue.

SLIGHT PROBLEM HERE. The CUPS that comes with RedHat 9.0 tells you to handle
this through "redhat-config-printer" However, it proves easy to set up this
way and shows up with the Cups 631 interface.

Another Slight Problem. The name "Raw Queue" is not acceptable, I think
because of spaces. And anyway, I think this conflicts with the name in step
6 below ("raw_q"). I choose to name it raw_q and we look good.

   4. In the smb.conf file [printers] section add use client driver =
Yes, and in the [global] section add printing = CUPS, plus printcap = CUPS.
OK, DONE

Now here's a step they left out: restart the cups and smbd daemons. I'm on
top of that.

   5. Install the printer as if it is a local printer. i.e.: Printing to
LPT1:.

I can do it that way, I can also do it in XP by creating a new port first.
Doesn't matter. We fail in the next step.

   6. Edit the configuration under the Detail tab, create a local port
that points to the raw printer queue that you have configured above. Example:
\\server\raw_q. Here, the name raw_q is the name you gave the print queue in
the CUPS environment.

AARGH! Still no good. What Windows configuration are they talking about?
Where is the detail tab. Well, anyway, I find a place where I can add a new
local port. I enter \\Rainier\raw_q and get "File Not Found"

Ever closer, but still no cigar.

RE: [Samba] Winbind problem?

2004-06-06 Thread Hans B. Randgaard
Hi Derek,

I reported this as bug number 1383, but it turned out
to be correct behaviour. The error message sounds as if
something is wrong, but it just says that there are no
domain users and domain group, since all users and groups
are LOCAL to the PDC. If you have a trusted doamin to
this PDC you will be able to see these...

Please look in the description of bug report 1383 for
more detail.

Regards, Hans.

Subject: [Samba] Winbind problem?

I've got a Samba PDC and a Samba domain member server. I successfully
joined the domain, started winbind and run the wbinfo -p; wbinfo -t
tests, both succeeded. But if I do a winbind -g I only get
BUILDIN/group and if I do a wbinfo -u I get "Error looking up domain
users". But ntlm_auth succeeds.

So I'm a little confused. At this point this is a minor issue since
authentication is working, I was just wondering why I can't list domain
users and groups.

Setup details
PDC is running Samba 2.2.8a on Solaris
Member server is running Samba 3.0.4 on Debian linux.

Thanks,
Derek

you can play around with:

map to guest = bad user
   guest account = agent-guest

and also the guest priviledges on the share itself...there is also a config that will
allow access for a bas username/password -

Well, I removed SAMBA and deleted all the files related to it. Well kept
a copy of the conf. Removed all machines accounts from the /etc/passswd.
Installed SAMBA 3.0.4-1_rh73.i386.rpm

did not start samba, but laid in the conf. Started up swat and went
through everything piece by piece, even got the group add and user to
group add/rem scripts running proper (sucks when adduser doesn't handle
groups at all). Machine add script works, add share works, add printer
works.

Best of all Machines can join the domain and login proper. All my
policies work, and profiles work as well. Every user had to "take
ownership" of the profiles area of their own, once they were in with a
temp roaming. I forgot to record the domain SID. OOPS. Did all my group
mapping exercises...

One VERY significant piece of info: The patch to Windows 2K and XP that
required 3.0.4 to be released, you cannot rollback the patch. Doesn't
work period. As I tried to use v3.0.2a rpm with all the clients rolled
back. It could see the Domain, could see the server, but once I tried to
login to the SAMBA domain it would just Disappear. Windows would
complain that the network is no longer available. No a fresh install of
W2K without the Authentication change would work... NO problem.

> Your help is most greatly appreciated in advance.

Guess, nobody cared to even comment on this one. I'll have to remember
that.

This is exactly the problem I've had. (Using Samba 3.0.x and Cups).
someone else suggested making the particular printer in use here set up
as a RAW print queue in CUPS. Requires editing two cups config files and
connecting to the web UI for cups and changing the printer queue type to
raw. Details can be found in the samba documentation on printing with cups.

I did this and one of my W98 systems can now print to it, though so far
the other one doesn't--perhaps I've not got it set up right, haven't spent
much time on that second one.

[Samba] Unable to find the Domain Master Browser

2004-06-06 Thread michael-list
I keep getting the error 'Unable to find the Domain Master Browser' in my
log,nmbd
below is an extract from my error log;

I've added:local master = yes , preferred master = yes to my smb.conf
I used swat to create configuration file. Trying to conect in with an XP
box, I've enabled MS networks, wins server -> 192.168.0.1,
I've added my XP user/pass to the samba DB, open ports 135:139 in iptables.
When i try and visit network neighbourhood from windows, i get error:

' is not accesable, You might not have permission to use
this netowrk resource'

i noticed that its trying to bind the wins server to my public ip, would
this be my problem?
how can i get it to bind to a specific interface, I've pasted the error and
my smb.conf below

really appreciate any suggestions

thanks :)

Not sure what you mean here. Isn't the above defining the printer. Oh, one
more thing, one of the diagnostic programs indicated a conflict with "oplocks
= No". I've removed that, with no effect.

Yes. That works, if you mean from the Linux box, not from Samba.

system can browse to the printer. Once again, printing appears to the client
as if it's happening. Once again nothing comes out of the printer. Once
again, there's nothing in the logs to indicate WTF is going on other than the
Domain Master Browser.

Yet if I run
nmblookup -M -d5 DARROW335
The output tells me that the machine I am running it from IS the domain master
browser:

Can someone tell me what all this means? Is this DMB stuff even relevant to
the non-printing problem here? I have read through all the troubleshooting
guides in "Using Samba" by Eckstein, et al. No answers there to my
condition.

so - making the printer local has let you move a little further? IUf anyone on the
list can explain the error messages when connecting to a
printer via network - that woul dbe most appreciated.

this sounds like what I had - just checking here - you are able to browse to a share
without any problem - no connection dialoges? nothing out
of the ordinary, you can just go start->run->\\server\share and all works

here is a copy of a printer config from my smb.conf:

[bdc-toshiba550]
printer = bdc_toshiba550
printing = cups
comment = toshiba_550 - BDC
path = /var/spool/samba
browseable = yes
guest ok = yes
writable = no
printable = yes
print command = lpr.cups -P %p -o raw %s;rm %s
lpq command = lpstat.cups -o %p
lprm command = cancel.cups %p-%j

I notice that you dont define your printer ... I have never actually printed to a
printer connected directly to a SAMBA box, only through
LPD/IP using cups...

can you send a test page VIA the cups interface?

I dont think these are contribting to the problem..but when you get things printing, I
would work on fixing them..oh - make sure domain
master browser is not commented out, but instead set to NO or YES - I has noticed that
the uncommented out default in 2.2.8a didnt do as
expected..

[Samba] LDAP authentication problem

2004-06-06 Thread Alexander Varga
Hi
I have a little problem with my ldap authorization of samba against Novel LDAP server.
This is the log output from the Novel Ldap server:

here is my slapd.conf ... it doesnot work to start slapd, because he cannot load ldbm

System successfully configured

smbpasswd -w mypassword
Setting stored password for "cn=SAMBAuser,ou=SRV100,ou=Resources,o=USS" in secrets.tdb

the sambauser is in the tree OU=SRV100,OU=Resources,O=USS
and the users have to be searched in the whole o=USS
... the problem is this time that, he wants always to search for a user of an
objectclass SambaAccount, which in the LDAP server doesn;t exist.

please help , to solve this
