[Samba] Windows appliaktion exe-files on a share extremely slow

2011-04-20 Thread Daniel Müller
Hello to all,
I am meanwhile with the latest samba sernet 3.5.8 but it is still the same.
When I place a executable exe-file in a share for
all users the responding and starting of that application is extremely slow.
As I can tell the cut was from samba2 to samba3 that those things happen.
Is there a work around to speed things up?

Re: [Samba] Domain Controller GPO

2011-04-20 Thread timothy mcdaniel
I would redownload the git source and download the latest version of samba4
and compile it and provision it and then when you get the latest verison of
samba4(which I think is samba4 alpha 15) and then how you would change the
password complexity requirements in the latest version of samba4 you would
use samba-tool or if you do not have the samba4 bin and sbin folders in your
path: /usr/local/samba/bin/samba-tool(this is assuming that you installed
the latest version of samba4 to your /usr/local folder) and you put this
command like this: /usr/local/samba/bin/samba-tool pwsettings
--complexity=off --history-length=0 --min-pwd-length=0
--min-pwd-age=0 and then press enter and then it will disable the password
complexity on the latest version of samba4
Thanks for your assistance, however the options are not recognized by the
net command. Is there any other variation of those it could be?

[Samba] Printer settings not saved

2011-04-20 Thread Thilo Uttendorfer

Hi,

I have problems to save printer settings like changing the
size from letter to A4. This happens for user settings
and default printer settings. The settings are always
resetted to default values like letter.

The system uses samba 3.4.11, I also did some tests with
samba 3.5.8, but nothing changed.

After downgrading to 3.3.2 everything worked as expected.
I didn't change any samba configuration while up- and
downgrading.

Bug #6727 sounds a little bit like my problem:
[...] Also if I change the configuration (e. g. configure
4 cartridges instead of 2), it is not be saved).
But this bug should be fixed with 3.5.8, see:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6727

Can somebody confirm this bug?

Thank you,
Thilo Uttendorfer

[Samba] Folder Encryption and Samba

2011-04-20 Thread Aaron Clausen
It's been passed to me from on high that one of our file servers needs
to be encrypted. I'm considering either whole-disk encryption or
folder encryption. I like the latter since, well, it's less work.

Is there any particular folder encryption systems out there that the
folks around here can recommend?

samba Version 3.5.4-5.3.1-2489-SUSE-SL11.3

I do not understand why the file permissions of mounted shares are
different when the share is viewed locally and when viewed remotely.

[...]
Is there a way to have the actual, real, local permissions shown to
  remote hosts?

No, CIFS essentially do not have the semantics of permission.
Because it is natively used to share Windows file system, which does
not have the semantics.

The permissions of mounted shares are created by client CIFS module
internally and vanished when umounted.

This is not the limitation of Samba or CIFS module but of CIFS
protocol.

Use NFS instead.

Re: [Samba] nmblookup - windows 7 does not respond

2011-04-20 Thread TAKAHASHI Motonobu
From: jcdole jcd...@free.fr
Date: Wed, 20 Apr 2011 11:25:48 + (UTC)

Laptop with windows 7 pro 32 bits (192.168.130.66) does not respond to
  nmblookup.
But from the Laptop with windows 7 (192.168.130.66), using explorer.exe I
can browse the content of the public ressource on the serveur
  //serveur-linux/publique

Because by default Windows 7 do not start computer browser service.

To start computer browser service, please refer to

http://www.websense.com/content/support/library/web/v75/triton_web_help/enable_comp_browser_svc.aspx

I have update the windows 7 registry but it does not help.
  HKLM\SYSTEM\CCS\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters
  DWORD DomainCompatibilityMode 1
  DWORD DNSNameResolutionRequired 0

This has nothing to do with the issue.

2011-04-20 Thread Taylor, Jonn
There is a top level build now for samba and s3 and s4 build is now in
one place. Just due the following for samba4:

./configure.developer
make
make quicktest - if you want
make install

That's it!

I don't know of any folder encryption in a normal Linux filesystem.
There are several per-filesystem encryption mechanisms. Samba also
supports over-the-wire transport encrpytion (and has done for many
years), but only for non-Windows clients (I'm bugging Steve French
and Jeff Layton to get this into the Linux CIFSFS client asap).

[SCM] Samba Shared Repository - branch v3-5-test updated

2011-04-20 Thread Karolin Seeger
The branch, v3-5-test has been updated
via 80078cb Fix is_myname_or_ipaddr() to be robust against strange DNS
setups.
from 2167ac2 s3: Fix bug 8099 - setpwent() actually does endpwent() on

commit 80078cb6ef2e6976cb5ab25a86157bca22c836a2
Author: Jeremy Allison j...@samba.org
Date: Thu Mar 24 11:55:38 2011 -0700

Fix is_myname_or_ipaddr() to be robust against strange DNS setups.

If IPv6 DNS names are turned on, but Samba isn't configured to
listen on an IPv6 interface, then is_myname_or_ipaddr() can return
false on a valid DNS name that it should detect is our own. If the
IPv6 addr is returned by preference, then looking at the first addr
only causes is_myname_or_ipaddr() to fail. We need to look at all the
addresses returned by the DNS lookup and check all of them against
our interface list. This is an order N^2 lookup, but there shouldn't
be enough addresses to make this a practical problem.

Jeremy.

Fix bug #8038 - Connecting to a printer can return INVALID_PARAMETER when
IPv6
DNS names are turned on.
