I think I'm halfway there though, I ran the following command #smbclient -U% -L localhost Added inetrface ip=192.168.x.x bcast= 192.168.x.x nmask=255.x.x.x Session Setup Failed: ERRSRV - ERRbadpw (Bad password - name/password pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are Invalid.) So I had a look in the /etc/inetd.conf file and added the following two lines netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd smbd netbios-ns dgram tcp nowait root /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd nmbd then ran kill -HUP id_no re running the smbclient command above resulted in the same error message, I can connect to the share from a windows client by \\servername\sharename it asks for password and accepts it this time. I'm still confused about the error message above but I seem to be making headway. Any input you can give will be greatfully recieved. regards Adrian

Hi All, I wonder if any one can help me, I have samba installed and seems to be running fine I can access SWAT from any of the windows clients on my home network. However I cant seem to access the share I have set-up. I ran through the troubleshooting pages of using SAMBA (book published by O'Reilly) it looks to me as if the nmbd daemon isn't running, I confirmed this looking at the status page in swat and by using ps -ef |grep nmbd. Even trying to run it by hand, it doesn't actually seem to run, trying the command server% nmblookup -B xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx '*' resulted in the answer below Added interface ip=255.255.255.255 bcast=255.255.255.255 nmask=255.255.255.255 sending Queries to 255.255.255.255 Hot a positive reply name query response from 192.168.1.20 (192.168.1.20) Needles to say I have no machine on the network with an ip of 255.255.255.255. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated. MerryXmas to one and all Adrian Samba Problems with Sco OpenServer 5.msg Description: Binary data
[Samba] Still Problems with Samba and Sco OpenServer 5
Hi All, Am I in the right group for samba problems? I only ask as I have received no replies not even "Post to the right Group" type of reply. Further to my original mail, I have now copied the ip addresses of all my machines and placed them in the /etc/hosts file. the command server% nmblookup -B xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx '*' now comes back with the correct responses, but I still think the problem is to do with the nmbd Daemon. How would I go about re-installing this? There is no point me re installing samba as It was installed from a tape, so re installation will put me back where I started from. I have got a little further, I can see the server from a win98 machine but cant access as it all ways tells me the password is incorrect. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated even if its to point me to the correct group if this isn't. Merry Xmas Adrian
