[Samba] forest trust with win 2013 AD

2013-08-21 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello,

is there a way to create a forest trust between samba and win 2013 AD ?

We need it because we would like to let our users access exchange 2013
without forcing them to use a new username / passwort.

Thanks

I have to add that on this same server I have other shares that sould work
with security=user so this parameter is set in the global section.

Is this the reason that it does not worl as expected ?

This is the place to start:

 Dale

Hello,

I does not work for me. Maybe I have something wrong in the config I overlook.

My smbusers file:
nobody = guest

part of my smb.conf

security = user
map to guest = Bad User
username map = /etc/samba/smbusers

[openshare]
guest ok = yes
path = /san/san-lacie/
read only = no
writable = no
printable = no
Browseable = No

I tested with
smbclient //server/public -Unot_a_user%foo

and it works. It does not work from windows because the user/pwd dialog
appears when I try to access the share from the explorer respectively gives
a error when I try from the console.
It is important that it works without the need to enter a password, because
I have to access this share from a program that is called by a service that
runs as NT-AUTORITY\SYSTEM.

[Samba] guest share on a security = user server

2013-05-02 Thread Andreas Moroder
Hello,

our samba server runs in security = user mode.
Now I need a share people can connect to, even if they are not in the domain.

I tried this configuration

[open]
comment = Fuer Scripte die via Mcafee gestartet werden
guest only = yes
#security = share
path = /san/san-lacie/abteilungen/allgemein/mcafee
read only = no
writable = no
printable = no
Browseable = No

but it does not work. Windows pops up the the logon window or , when I try
to start a script from the console it tells me ( translated from german )
unkonwn user or worng passowrd

smbclient asks for a pwd too, but accepts a empty one.

What is wrong in my configuration ?

[Samba] New Windows 7 PC in samba network sees itself as logonserver respectively can not access subdirectories

2012-02-28 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello,

we are preparing a new image for our windows 7 computers. We can connect
to the domain, we also see all of our samba servers. On one server we
can logon, see also the directories in the share, but when we try to
open subdirectories explorer hangs for a long time and then a dialog
appears telling me that I probably don't have the rights on this directory.

The only strange thins I see in this PC is that the environment variable
LOGONSERVER is set to the name of the PC itself.

On this server on the share we want to access we have set
force user = wwwrun
force group = nogroup

I tried via ssh to cd to the directories I want to go via samba and I
have enough rights as wwwrun

All works well from all our XP and also older Win 7 computers.

Can anyone please help me.

[Samba] Implement Samba4 AD

Hello,

in our two hospitals, with 700 PCs and 1200 Users, all our fileservers

We have to change to AD. Is samba4 stable enought to implement it, maybe
in a samba3 fileserver / samba4 AD combination ?

Can we expect to get some support from the experts in this group ?

If I get a positive answer I will post more precise informations about
our actuakl configuration.

As to your needs you have to join your Samba3 machines to the new ads.
As far as I know there is meanwhile a tool in samba4 to vampire your samba3

With SOGo/Openchange/Samba4 as addition you can have even your own Exchange

we have many other applications ( imp/horde, MRBS, squid and many more )

[Samba] very slow profile loading and strange log message

In the user's samba log I found many lines of the type:

  tonon-pc11 (:::192.168.10.11) couldn't find service odb$

We don't have a service ODB defined on our samba server and never had.
Is this a special service ?

Could it be that the last patches from microsoft are the reason.

AFAIK the FUSE filesystems have in common the problem that they are read

My idea was a samba VFS that, when it finds a compressed file with a

file but allows to read and write to other files

Hallo,

we have a clinical system that generate lot of files that once written
are never changed. This file consume lot of disk and tape space*, so my
idea was to compress this files. The problem is that it can happen, that
the users have to open this files later.

Is there a VFS module for samba that show gzipped** read only files as
if they were standard files ?

Bye
Andreas

* Disks are cheap, but the are no more disk-slots in the server and the
server has to be up 24*7 so we can not simply change the disks

** bzip2 would be preferable because of the better compression, but the
orginal size is not stored in the header so I assume it can not be used
for this purpose

Re: [Samba] concurrent ms access usage does not work with 3.4.3

2010-01-14 Thread Andreas Moroder
It sounds like the users no longer have the appropriate permissions to
create/modify the appropriate temporary files.
My guess is that when you upgraded to 3.4.3 you enabled more
fine-grained ACL support.

What OS and file system? Do you have ACL support? I can't speak for
MS Access, but I did find that MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and will often
explicitly modify file permissions in a way that could result in the
user loosing access. This was on solaris, when we changed migrated
from UFS to ZFS file system. For example, if a file was set to be 660
in unix, the user and group can read and write but everyone else is not
allowed in unix would be treated as everyone is denied even the user
and group in Windows. If you check the permissions under windows you
would see that a deny entry was overriding the allow entries.

Hello Gaiseric,

we use SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (i586) Kernel 2.6.5-7.252-smp
with ACL enabled.
The point is, that they can all use the program as long as they don't
use it togheter.

[Samba] samba printing with cups driver and cups with non PS printers

2008-06-01 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello,

I just finished to read chapter 22 of the samba howto.
This chapter explains very well how printing from a win client via samba
and cups work.

If I understood it right, printing a file from windows to a non
postscript printer via cups driver, samba an cups works like this:

- application prints generating an EMF file ( windows spooler )
- the cups ( or adobe ) printer driver converts this file to postscript
and sends it to samba that passes the file to cups

- cups takes the ps file and creates a raster ( bitmap )
- cups converts this raster data to the file printed ( PCL or ESC/P )

IMHO there are steps here that could be avoided.

EMF files are no more than a series of calls to windows GDI funtions.
This GDI function create a DIB ( device independent bitmap )

Wouldn't it be more efficient to let windows convert the EMF file to a
DIB and convert this direct to a cups raster and send this to cups ?

The two conversion from EMF to PS and from PS to raster could be
replaced by one.

Also possible conversion problems between emf and ps could be avoided.

This printer driver could continue to use the PPD system for configuration.

The mime type for cups rasters is also registered at IANA.

http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/application/vnd.cups-raster.

[Samba] group profiles

profile is assigned access rights for the user group that needs

to be given access to the group profile.

It's all but clear to me how to procede.

[Samba] Re: group profiles

2008-04-30 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello John,

You can name the profile anything you want, so long as the ACLs inside the
profile are correct for the group that needs to be able to access it.

As a general rule, the ACLs should be set so that members of the group have
full control. Then select a user who is a member of that group; set the
profile path to the new group profile; now log on as that user and edit, or
clean up and polish up the setting for that profile. Now log off. As the
Domain Admin rename the user.dat file to user.man.

You now have a mandatory (meaning - usr can not change the profile settings)
profile that is accessible only by members of the group.

Now I know how to prepare the mandatory profile.

Group members will be able to access this group profile - but first the
administrator must set their profile path to point to this group profile.

Does this mean, that they have only this profile or is it possible to
have a mandatory group profile and a personal profile ?

Does that clarify things?

- John T.

Maybe I oversought this in the howto, but your explanation should be
added to the howto.

Thank you very much

[Samba] Modification to smbldap-useradd

2007-01-26 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello,

we use samba with openLDAP. The machines are also registered into samba
using the smbldap-useradd script.
Now we need also the MAC address of the PC in the samba machine account
entry.

We know that it should be possible to do this passing to smbldap-useradd the
samba parameter %I and then retrieve the mac from /proc/net/arp.
The problem is that we have no good perl programmer in our public hospital.

Could anyone make the changes to the script add and them to the samba
source ?

This feature should probably be a option.

I posted this to the idealix mailing list, but it looks like it is a
dead list.

Thanks
Andreas

[Samba] Re: Possible to have two SAMBA srvs act as one?

Michael Rignaz schrieb:

Hi,

is it possible to share write locks amongst two samba servers?

We are experiencing performance issues all the time, because one
location (location A) is connected via VPN to the main location
(location B) and needs to access files hosted there on some samba shares.
Now loc A gets its own server, but still files hosted in B need to be
read/write accessed from A and vice versa.
It would be really nice to have all files and shares on both servers.
And when a file is locked on srv1 it's also locked on srv2.

Is something like that possible?

Thnx in advance,
Michael

Hello,

what type of files do you have to share ?
Doc type files or database files ?

Hello Michael,

one solution would be to use Openoffice. The files become smaller
because they are compressed.

I have tested with a xls that is 1580 KB, the .ODS is 275 KB

[Samba] hosts allow and netbios names

2005-08-03 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello,

when I set a name instead of a IP on the hosts allow parameter, does
samba resolve the name using DNS or can it use the netbios name ( %m) of
the client too ?

Thanks

XP SP1 and TEMP profile

2002-10-15 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello,

we try to get our new XP machines with SP1 working with profiles but we have the
following problem.

When we log in into the share the client searche for the profile on the samba
2.2.6pre server and then complains that he can not find it. After that it
creates a local TEMP profile.

How can we force to create the profile for the user logged in onto the server ?

Thanks you

Andreas

P.S. I must admin that we have no eXPerience with profiles, we used only 9x.

Temporary admin user

2002-10-02 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello,

today few people of our IT staff are admin users in smb.conf. This is a
dangerous situation, on the other side, they must be able to do things normal
users can not. Because we use win98 on the clients it is not possible to switch
user at runtime like its possible to do with Xp.

What about the following proposal:

- add a attribute to the usernames listed in admin users. The users with this
attribute are not admin by default, but are candidates

- add a message type to smbcontrol to enable or disable the admin mode.

nmbd sends SYN packet to external Network address

2002-09-12 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello,

our firewall tells me that one of my samba machines sends out SYN packets to a
external network.

Using netstat --tcp -p I have found out that nmbd is the culprit. Can anyone
tell me how I can stop nmbd sending this packets.

Re: nmbd sends SYN packet to external Network address

2002-09-12 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello all,

i looked into the nmb.log of my wins server ( samba 1.9.7 on HP-UX ) and found
the following lines

wins_process_name_query: name query for name 5934542426020 from IP 10.53.5.12
wins_process_name_query: name query for name 5934542426020 not found - doing d
ns lookup.
added DNS query for 5934542426020
add_dns_result: DNS gave answer for 59345424260 of 209.67.79.132
add_name_to_subnet: Added netbios name 5934542426020 with first IP 209.67.79.1
32 ttl=7200 nb_flags= 4 to subnet WINS_SERVER_SUBNET
DNS calling send_wins_name_query_response

Does this happen ?
- my server 10.53.5.12 tries to resolve the name 59345424260
- the wins server gives him a external address 209.67.79.1 as answer
( with nslookup 59345424260 does NOT resolve, so I don't know where the address
comes from )
- my server tries to contact the address
- my pix stops this packets and logs the error.

Now my big question, why does my server try to resolve this strange name ?
Can it be a PC that was in our net with this name and now is no more here ?

Thanks
Andreas

tdb.patch
Description: Binary data

(no subject)

2002-06-29 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello Terry,

did you create your two files from your client via
samba or did you create
them localy on the servers console or a server
application? It seems to me
that you used the second way because there is no way to
create this two
files via samba. Windows machines don\'t check the case
of a filename ( NT
and mantain the case ) so both files are the same for
Windows.

-rw-rw-r--1 13301csr108681 Jun 20 12:37
File1.txt  ==
file1.txt
-rw-rw-r--1 13301csr170180 Jun 20 12:32
FILE1.TXT ==
file1.txt

On a NT Server you could never create this two files
in the same directory.

two small changes proposed

2002-05-26 Thread Andreas Moroder

Hello,

i have two very small changes to propose to the samba
code.

In oplock.c at line 334 IVAL shoud be changed with IVALS

in lib/replace.c in the function strlcpy
there is a comparison

bufsize =0

but bufsize is unsigned, so
a. the variable should be signed
or
b. the comparison can be changed to =
