Is there any way around this? Perhaps Windows Services for Unix? Will
Samba read the Unix UID from SFU if it's installed??? I _HAVE_ to get the
UID's to match.

Not all my Windows users use Unix, but, ALL my Unix users use Windows ---
and the Windows users also need access to all the files.

Without getting the UID's to match up, I don't see how I'm going to make
this work... Unless, I'm thinking shortsighted and there is other info I'm
unaware of?

[Samba] UID Matching

2011-01-18 Thread Brian D. McGrew
Good afternoon...

Currently my Unix and Windows UID's don't match, nowhere close to it. I use
AD for the Windows side of the house from a Win2K8 Server and I still use
NIS for the Unix/Linux side of the house. I don't do single sign-on yet, so
everyone in the building has a Windows account and a Unix account with two
different UID's, but the same username.

Now, I'm at a point where I need to share a filesystem from a Samba server
to Windows, but it also needs to be accessible via NFS to the Unix users at
the same time.

What is the best way to do this and get some cohesion between the UID's???
I was thinking I could extend AD with the Unix stuff but then stopped and
realized I'd be better of asking the world than guessing, in a production
environment.

Thanks!

So if I understand correctly, using the old switch, everything is good???

If that's the case, put the old switch back in place and login to all your
machines and do the ping test. It should be good. Now, don't logout, just
change the switch and look at the connection status for all your machines. Are
they still good? Can you do the ping test now and is it good?

Yeah, I did a 'service smb restart' and everything came back OK. Just
for grins I rebooted the server about an hour ago, just in case I missed
something. No dice, same thing.

Still, very slow. ++4hour estimate to copy a 4GB file. <2mins via FTP.

[Samba] Windows app can't clean up temp files

2008-04-24 Thread Brian D. McGrew
A couple of my users use Solidworks which creates temp files that look like
~$drawing_name.sldrw in the directory that they¹re opened in.

I¹ve changed permissions till I¹m blue in the face and can not get this
program to clean up it¹s temp files. Whenever a user goes back into a
drawing they get permission denied on the temp files. This problem does not
happen when the files are hosted on a genuine Windows server.

What should I go look at?

Hi guys,

Is there anything out of the ordinary I have to do for an OS 9 Mac to be
able to talk to samba? When I try "connect to server" (or something
like that), it doesn't matter in what format I enter the IP address - I
simply cannot connect to it.

Thanks

[Samba] net ads join help

2006-08-24 Thread Brian D. McGrew
I'm not sure that the problem is with net ads join but I'm in desperate
need of help either way.

Using smb Version 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1

I do a net ads join I get the below error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp]# net ads join -U [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Failed to set servicePrincipalNames. Please ensure that
the DNS domain of this server matches the AD domain,
Or rejoin with using Domain Admin credentials.
Disabled account for 'MUSTANG' in realm 'MACHINEVISIONPRODUCTS.COM'

However, after doing a kinit I can then do a smbclient //server/c$ -k
and I'm right in. My problem is that Windows clients can't access
shares on the Unix Samba server.

This is a critical network down issue; please help asap!!!

Thanks!

[Samba] Failed to verify incoming ticket

2005-09-16 Thread Brian D. McGrew
Good day all!

I've got four samba servers up and running perfectly and I went to add a
fifth box using the exact same steps and operating system but ran into a
problem.

I can't map a drive by name (\\Mustang\Support) but I can go by IP
(\\10.0.0.23\Support). I found a snipped posting that said try the IP
and it worked.

In my logs when I try and go by hostname I see the errors "Failed to
verify incoming ticket".

I guess I missed something in the setup but I've been back through it
several times. What am I doing wrong, how do I fix this?

Thanks!

[Samba] Access from Mac OS X

2005-08-31 Thread Brian D. McGrew
I just put up a brand new Fedora Core 3 machine to run Samba and host
our accounting data files. Life is good from Windows. Life is very
good!

But, I have a couple of Mac OS X machines that also need to access this
share and are currently unable to do so. How do I go about getting Mac
OS X to recognize this share?

Thanks,

-brian
