2003-10-10 Thread Denis Heitbrock
hi,

i setup a samba-3.0.0-2 server under redhat 9. i added this server to a
win nt 4.0 domain controller. the nt domaincontroller only runs the
following services: wins, dhcp  pdc.
nothing more.

[Samba] samba-3.0.0beta2-1 - lost connection to domain controller

2003-07-25 Thread Denis Heitbrock
hi,

some days ago i posted the message below. i found out that the problem
was that samba lost the connection to our nt 4.0 domain controller.
after i did net join -w domainname -U Administrator the probem was
solved. when i installed samba i did the net join to join our domain
with success.
yesterday we got the same problem again. the users couldnt write or
create files on the server and sometimes the response was that the
server hhd is full etc.
when we got this problems i also did again the net join and after that
the problems gone. it seems that about every 10 days samba lost the
connection to the domain controller. i also didnt remove the server from
our domain controller. why did samba lost the connection to the domain
controller? does anyone have the same problems?

[Samba] recycle under samba-3.0.0beta2-1

2003-07-04 Thread Denis Heitbrock
hi,

i got a small problem with the recycle under samba-3.0.0beta2-1 on a redhat
9.0 machine.
when i delete file the files move to the recycle bin. when i check the
recycle bin all files
are in the main directory and not with the directory structure.

my /etc/samba/recycle.conf looks so:
name = .recycle
# mode :
# KEEP_DIRECTORIES = retain directory hierarchy of deleted file,
#i.e. recreate all directories in recycle bin
# VERSIONS = create copies in case of identical file names in
recycle bin
# TOUCH= touch access date of files moved into the recycle bin
mode = KEEP_DIRECTORIES|VERSIONS|TOUCH
# maximum file size to be moved to the recycle bin (0 means any size)
maxsize = 0
# exclude file names with the following extensions:
exclude = *.tmp|*.temp|*.o|*.obj|~$*
# exclude directories:
excludedir = /tmp|/temp|/cache

the string keep_directories is active but samba move all files only in 1
directory and dont keep the structure.
thxxx for help.

[Samba] max. character length for shares???

2003-07-01 Thread Denis Heitbrock
hi,

i created a share called Betriebsanleitungen. when i login over a w2k pc
to that share i can connect to the share.
when i try this unter nt 4.0 i cant connect to the share.

is there a max. character length for shares with nt 4.0 clients? it is very
strange because on another nt 4.0 server
we got a same share and i can connect to it with a nt 4.0 ws.

thxxx for help.

[Samba] problems with ae, oe, ue etc.

2003-06-30 Thread Denis Heitbrock
hi,

i got some problems with the words ä (=ae), ü (=ue), ö (=oe) etc. on a
redhat 9.0 with samba 2.2.8a-1.
when i create a dir on a share with this words like prüfen (=pruefen) i
can access the dir.
when i try to access the dir over a ssh session the dir is called pr?fen.

is there a way to enable ä, ü, ö etc? maybe after a backup the dirs are not
correctly backuped or restored after a crash.
i think some days or weeks ago here also posted something like my problem
but i dont find it because i dont know the keywords for it.

thxxx for help.

[Samba] guest account login

2003-06-18 Thread Denis Heitbrock
hi,

i use rh9 with samba 2.2.8a. i use samba security = domain with the password
servers.
i now want to create a share for only some users with full rights and all
other users should login via the nobody (or some other) guest account but i
want that they arent ask for a loginname and a password. i also dont wanted
to enter all names into the smbuser file (nobody = guest pcguest smbguest
...) because we got over hundret of users here.

how can i setup a share that only the named users have full rights and all
the other users could login without typing in a loginname and passwort so
that they directly get into the share.

[Samba] vfs modules audit + recycle

2003-05-28 Thread Denis Heitbrock
hi,

i use samba 2.2.8a
on a share i wanted to use the audit.so and recycle.so modules. in my
smb.conf i added the following share

[dir]
comment = dir
valid users = @edv
writeable = yes
create mode = 777
path = /data/
directory mode = 777
vfs object = /usr/lib/samba/vfs/audit.so
vfs object = /usr/lib/samba/vfs/recycle.so
vfs options = /etc/samba/recycle.conf

with this config the recycle bin is running but there are no audit
information logged in the messages file. when i comment out the recycle
lines the audit module is running fine. i also tried this config:

[dir]
comment = dir
valid users = @edv
writeable = yes
create mode = 777
path = /data/
directory mode = 777
vfs object = /usr/lib/samba/vfs/audit.so /usr/lib/samba/vfs/recycle.so
vfs options = /etc/samba/recycle.conf

but when i then start samba i cant get access to the directory.
could anyone help me with this problem? thxxx for help.
