[Samba] FYI: Samba 3.6.6 crash -solved
Hi, I could solve the problem performing the following steps: unintstall all samba rpm's. Download the same rpm using wget Install the rpm using rpm -Uhf ... I user "zypper in samba3.." before (pointing to the same source). However it's working now. Hi, we want to replace our old NT4 PDC with a samba 3 PDC against LDAP. We have already 2 fileserver and a print server currently (all running samba 3) working within the old domain. Do we have to change the configuration and add the ldap parameter at those servers ? Re: [Samba] ACL issue with Samba 2.0.23d + GFS
Hi, as far as I know GFS only supports posix acl. So only user:group:other. Everything else are extended acl which are not supported. Have you tested, if the acl rules are working on the unix side ? Bye, Peer Dex Chen schrieb: I build with ACL support and installed samba 2.0.23d on RedHat EL 2.6.9. It runs fine. But, I ran into an issue with ACL support. Here is the detail: I set up a cifs share (gfs_cifs) which is on Linux GFS (see the smb.conf below), and mount it on a XP box. Then I try to change the permission of the dir through Windows native security tab. When I apply the changes (click on OK/Apply button), "Unable to save permission changes ... Access is denied" error message is popped up. But, I was able to using "setfacl" command on linux to modify the acl of dir. In addition, I was able to do exactly same thing for a share (ext_cifs) on ext3 file system. At this point, it seems to me this problem has something to do with combination of samba and GFS. I tried all other options in smb.conf, and nothing is help. Any help on this would be really appreciated. [Samba] samba and cups printing
Hi, I'll tried to configure a few printing queues, but without any success. We want to add a dedicated monochrome queue to one color system. Our print server is a SuSE 9.1 running the following software: cups-1.1.20-108.31 cups-devel-1.1.20-108.31 cups-drivers-1.1.20-60 cups-drivers-stp-1.1.20-60 cups-SUSE-ppds-dat-1.1.20-98 cups-client-1.1.20-108.31 cups-libs-1.1.20-108.31 samba-doc-3.0.2a-51 samba-3.0.20-0.1 samba-client-3.0.20-0.1 So I created the following printer: ^ Info A_2_013_IR6800C (color queue) Location Building A, floor 2, room 013 DeviceURI tea4cups://lpd://141.5.16.68/print State Idle Accepting Yes JobSheets none none QuotaPeriod 0 PageLimit 0 KLimit 0 # ^ # Info A_2_013_IR6800M black&white queue !! # Location Building A, floor 2, room 013 # DeviceURI tea4cups://lpd://141.5.16.68/print # State Idle # Accepting Yes # JobSheets none none # QuotaPeriod 0 # PageLimit 0 # KLimit 0 # Also two ppd files are installed and working. From the cups point of view everything seems to be correct. One is printing in color, the other queue in black and white. Ok, restart of samba brings up two printers - but both we the same name and the same discription ! I'll tried to install the ppd (using cupsaddsmb), but everything looks like before. Also when I switch the print driver using the windows gui, the printer appears with the name of the driver ! Ok, I used the name of the printer, when I installed the driver, but why should be the print queue be renamed when the driver is changed ? [Samba] Problem with extra accounts
Hi, we are still using our old NT4 domain. Within the domain we have _USERNAME accounts for users needing admin rights on dedicated computer. The problem is now. Re: [Samba] Re: Migration NT4 domain to Samba/LDAP howto
Hi, is it possible to setup a dedicated BDC and test everything and do the main step after verifing that everything is working ? Have a look at Samba 3 by Example. http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ Chapter 9 tells you how to do this. You may also want to look at Chapter 5. This has info. on using LDAP with Samba 3. You can migrate all the user and computer info. from your NT 4.0 PDC straight to Samba. Re: [Samba] GFS and samba
Hi, just as a remark: we are using also a cluster filesystem together with samba and nfs (StorNEXT). In the beginning we had some problem with NFS (kernel panic), caused by the file locking. However, we are using one SAMBA server for the home shares and another for the group shares. Two addional nodes are exporting everything using NFS. Therefore we do not have a concurrent situation of two samba server exporting the same stuff. For NFS it works! We have 6 NFS file server working on the same file base. But I never tested what will happen, when to samba server are starting to access the same file on different server. My suggestion would be, it CAN work, if the GFS is correctly locking the file, if one once write access to a file. However, a cluster solution for samba would be MUCH better! Bye, Peer Andrew Bartlett schrieb: On Wed, 2006-09-27 at 17:20 +0200, sandra-llistes wrote: Hello, We have two Fedora 5 Servers clustered with GFS. We installed samba and exported the same shares in both of them. All went fine at first, with people accessing to theirs own files and so, but for some programs (minitab, matlab, ...) people need to access the same file at once. Then samba begins to fail and clients hang. In order to fix samba is necessary to restart the service. We've tried to put the shares in a filesystem without GFS and all goes well, people can access the same file without problems simultaneously. This certainly looks weird. If the files are only ever accessed from one node, then it *should* work, but I don't know if this is something that has been tested with GFS specifically. Serious damage starts to happen when we have Samba accessing the same files on both nodes, because all the state information isn't shared between nodes. (Proposals for a scalable solution for Samba to do this are due on samba-technical in the next week). If you are only using one node for Samba, it should be the same as a local non-cluster filesystem, so perhaps raise this with the GFS developers. [Samba] Problem with samba3 and groups
Hi, we have just moved our file services from an old hpux system to a new linux system. I used the old config as a template for the new smb.conf. Most things are working, but not everything. To explain what I mean: we have a share called ABC, valid group AG_X within this folder there is a subfolder DEF, owned by AG_Z and the permissions 770 (open only for group members). This is working perfectly under linux itself, but samba only pop up a message access denied.
