You should file an ITS http://www.openldap.org/its/ after collecting
the information described here

Make sure your slapd was compiled with debugging symbols and not
stripped, get a core file, and get a backtrace of where it crashed.

Sorry, I was not precise: The file is called libwbclient.so,
libwbclient.so.1 or another number at the end. You might try
to issue a

find / -name libwbclient\*

to find the location of the existing libwbclient. If there
is none, your old Samba installation is just incomplete and
can not have worked. libwbclient is an important component
of the Samba software suite since version 3.2.

Please look into the sambaAcctFlags attribute of the object

Yes, because a 'normal' upgrade, make install does not touch the
secrets.tdb file. This file is created when the samba daemons are started.

I have troubles with some shares that are NFS mounted to a Netapp
filer, if I enable locking on that share, the file cannot be opened
by the windows client in write mode ( read only after a looong time )

Anyone has the same problem , it seems to be a Netapp bug but
they do not support samba at all :-) so I don't expect any answer
from them.

Hello

I have a problem to join our Domain with a NEW windows workstation.

We use Samba-ldap PDC and encounter the following trouble :

I have setup an administrative user with the SeMachineAccountPrivilege
to let the workstation's administrator add or remove a machine from
our domain using this login name.

If the machine is already registered into our LDAP database everything
works right, the machine can leave or join the domain from the windows
workstation.

If the machine is NOT registered into our LDAP database it is impossible
to join the domain from the windows workstation.

Note the UNIX UID of this user is NOT 0 (zero) for security reason
doest this matter ?

Thanks a lot.

This probably is due to the fact that when Office saves a file it
creates a new file it creates a temp file then deletes the old file
then renames the temp file to the same name as the old file and in
this case the os magically sets the permissions of the renamed temp
file to what the old file had. The problem is that Linux does not have
this weird filesystem behavior built in so you have to emulate this
with samba. I believe some versons of samba required a create mask of
2777 to get this to work. BTW, this is discussed many times in the
 archives.

If I understand you correctly, you mean everything is working just fine,
but the server name displayed in file explorer for the network drive
letter is still the old server name.

If that's it, check the registry:

 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComputerDescriptions]

Delete the entries for the server it will automatically refresh to the
 current setting.

Thanks for the answer, but I have a problem to do that on our ~800

Why not keeping the same name for your server? Then with same name and
same IP you don't need to update anything.

You may have to keep the Samba server SID too (keep the secrets.tdb
file from one server to the other, transparent with LDAP I think).

Yes I know it now , it is logical captain but the preceding person which
installed the old samba version has written the samba version in the
server string statement !!! and it would be very confusing for users and
admins ... Of course the new server will have a generic name such as
Samba server .

Why you use IPs on the client instead of names? Here we resolve
everything by Wins/DNS. So no need for using IPs.

The problem is windows clients does not update the name of network
drives and keep the old names even connected to the new PDC server

You mean the name of the server or from the shares?
If you keep the IP you can also name the new server as the old one (what
I would suggest). And if the shares also keep their names, nothing
 changes out of client sight.

it is the case

How are the shares connected? If you use a logon script, you can change
 this.
Just disconnect all old shares before you map it. And if the shares are
mapped with /PERSISTENT:NO, they are automatically disconnected after
 logoff.

OK I'm gonna try this

And don't forget to set the domain SID of the new server to the one of
your old server. Otherwise your clients doesn't accept the new server as
PDC for the domain, even if the domain name is the same.

Of course the SID is the same

The fact that NetApp filers are not able to create the

[Samba] Samba and NetAPP filers, the PDC problem...

2009-02-05 Thread Frank Bonnet

Hello

Is there any hope one day a Samba PDC will work with NetAPP filer ???
I mean will it be possible to register a filer as a machine in a Samba PDC ?

I fails since years and I never had any clear explainations about it.

Couls someone ( Mr Bartlett ? ) tell me why it had never be possible ?

Thanks a lot.

Yep, did it. NetApp says it's not supported, but it works
beautifully.

Yes cool !

Do you have a howto ?

Do I have to setup a *local* account (in smbpasswd) for each filer on the samba
PDC ?
we use Samba + OpenLDAP and adding a machine account in LDAP does
not help to connect the filer to the PDC

Thanks

There's tons of documentation for Samba/PDC setups.

Well, then there's something wrong with your setup. The
filer is just a normal member machine.

Volker

mmh , which version of Samba are you using ? Actually my production
server is runing 2.2.x if it matter.

Okay I wouldn't bet that this does in fact work with
NetApp filers. 2.2 was delared end of life AGES ago :-)

Yes I know , but sometimes you haven't choice on existing production
