[Samba] Multiple Drive Mappings
Hi: I'm running Samba 3.0.4 on RH 9 using domain logins. I've just set this up and I've noticed that when the user logs in and the specified login.bat file is executed, all the drives that are specified to be mapped end up mapped twice! I know I've seen reference to this problem in the past but I can't locate it now. Can anyone tell me what to do to keep this from happening? [Samba] RE: How Samba Let Us Down
Chris: First of all let me say that your implementation of Samba is orders of magnitude above mine, however I have seen some problems similar to yours. I second the advice about the WINS server. When I have not had this set up properly (or nmbd has died for some reason) I see all kinds of odd browsing problems including slow browsing, things coming in and out of the browse list with no explanation, etc. In addition I thought I'd add that when I added a VPN link to my network to tie in other off-site offices, this noticeably slowed down the browsing for local clients. This is because they are hitting that VPN link (because they have a drive mapped there) and thus it takes time to travel out and back over the link. Granted none of this addresses your file corruption issues, but I thought it might help for the future. Browsing is generally what generates all my questions from users :) Good Luck - and don't give up! James James W. Beauchamp, P.E. 2121 Newmarket Pkwy. [Samba] WINS and cross subnet
can you ping hte wins server from your linux box? How is your machine configured? Are you the local master browser and the domain master browser? Do either you or the WiNS server have remote announce set? does browsing on a Windows machine on your local subnet show the linux box as well as the other work groups? If not, then the two are not communicating.. I am kind of like you. I am having limited success with this on my networks. However, I suspect that you probably don't have control over the WINS server. Right? Or is it a Windoze box? James P.S. - I suppose you have already looked at the browsing.txt file? -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
[Samba] cross subnet browse sync problem
Hello all. I have the following setup: 192.168.1.x local lan. 192.168.2.x remote lan - connected by a vpn tunnel. I have a samba server on both ends of the network. The one on the 192.168.1.x has WINS enabled and samba on the 2.x network is pointed at the primary via 'wins server=192.168.1.1'. My problem is that I can look in the wins.dat file and see that machines on the remote net are in the file, along with the workgroup/domain name as well, but the machines don't show up when using Network Neighborhood to browse the remote workgroup. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I have the remote samba with the remote broswe sync = 192.168.1.1. Should I be doing something else? TIA James
