[Samba] Very Large Offsite Backup
I put a Samba server in small office (6 users) that has 1.5 Terabytes of storage space. They are unique in that they need the space because they do a lot with video, but with the limited amount users I went with an IDE solution. I am a little worried about physical damage to the equipment and trying to come up with some way of doing an offsite backup. Their office is in a very industrial area. I was thinking about clustering, but I was wondering how effective that would be over the Internet. Thanks for you help! [Samba] Remote Desktop on XP
I have client that turned on Remote Desktop on XP (Micro$oft's version of PC Anywhere built into the OS). Now those machines cannot log into to the Samba server. I tried reinstalling the XP registry patch, no luck. Any ideas?? Thanks! [Samba] Digital Media Players
I figure someone with a smarter brain than I has successfully done this. On my home Linux Server running Samba I store my mp3 collection. I've been looking at those digital media players that allow you to play your songs through your home stereo without having your computer near by. An example of this is the Linksys WMA11B Wireless Digital Media Adapter. The problem resides is all these boxes require a Windows based program to be running on them. My goal is to have one of these things connect to my Linux box. I've debating to try WINE, but I am not sure how the networking would work out. Thanks in advance for you help! [Samba] Random Directories
I believe this a virus on one of the work stations, but I want to just make sure because no of the virus scans are picking it up. I just built the largest Linux server I ever attempted (725 Gigs in RAID5). I convinced my client to move from Micro$oft. Everything was working perfectly during tests. In operation they are getting random directories made (1000s of them) in the shared folders. They are generally things like 0cccdcdc. It started in one person's home directory and that's why I am leaning towards a virus. The only problem is that I can't find a virus on the work stations. The configurations is as follows: Redhat 9 with Samba 2.2.8 RAID5 (hardware using Adaptec's 2400A card and 4 WD 250Gig drives) Workstations - Windows XP Pro (just upgraded from ME) Thanks for your help. I don't want to blow this one. This office is a small portion of a much bigger company. If I get this one to work out, I am hoping they will consider it elsewhere. Thanks for your help!
